I thought it might be a good idea to mark the anniversary of this historic event, so here's a few pics related to the concert.

Enjoy!

Here you can find the transcript from the whole show, I'm just gonna put some of the most important Bono's thoughts that he had spoken that night.

...Viva Sarajevo!
Fuck the past!
Kiss the future
Viva Sarajevo
VIVA...

"Svirati u Sarajevu je vas poklon nama."
("Playing in Sarajevo is your gift to us.")

...My voice is gone
But your voices are strong
I'm gonna ask you to carry me
Like you carried each other
In these weeks months and years
Sing with me
This song
I have cli-imbed
Highest Mountain
I have ru-un
Through the fields
Only to be
With youuu...

...Thank you for
Thank you for your
Kindness
Your generosity in coming to see our show
And.. I promise not to kiss your ass but kick it, but now it might have to be a bit of a tickle [Coughs]...

...Our country is a little like your country
This is a
We come from Ireland
[Segue to first verse]
Come from Ireland
When our people get off their knees soon...

...Thank you for coming
Bill Carter Thank you...

...We have a song that we've never played before
Uhm
Live
Uhm
As a band
Anyway you might know this one
[Miss Sarajevo with Brian Eno]...
...Sarajevo
This song was written for you
Hope you like it!

...My voice wasn't here, but it's better to be here than anywhere else in the world tonight...

and THE BEST ONE

...Bosnia Herzegovina
I don't have to tell you
To be united is a great thing
But to respect difference
May be an even greater thing
So for the city of the future!
Sarajevo!
City of the future!
Sarajevo!
City of the future!
[Outro]
Here us coming lord
Here us call
Here us knocking
Knocking for your love
Here us scratching Lord
Here us crawl
Here us scratching Lord
Then we crawl
Oooh hhoooo
Wooo hooo
Yeah

No.
I do have a recording of it though.

Great concert (although Bono's voice was shattered and there were a few musical mistakes (Miss Sarajevo anyone?) the emotion was so much that it is one of U2's best concerts).

I listened to that concert again last week, and I was amazed at how much harder it rocked than the elevation tour, which is ironic because so many people were playing up the techno angle of popmart back then.
The only criticim I have of that period is their look. It still hasn't aged well, imo, and hurt the band at that time.

I absolutely love that concert, everything on it, including those little mistakes. It is such a remarkable moment in U2´s career. And I have no problem with their Popmart look, for sure. Thank you for that transcript vivaSA

There´s a great, great article in that NME Originals featuring U2 about the Sarajevo concert. The title is The Unforgettable Crossfire. A must read IMO, you cand find it here:

And if someone is interested, the link below contains some great pics from Sarajevo and the concert (some are the same posted above, but in a bigger scale)

It seems that 23rd September is a lucky date for U2 (and especially U2 fans) I'm just listening to "Vertigo" I CAN FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL :D

VivaSA, thanks for letting us all take a trip down memory lane! I distinctly remember being overwhelmed with the emotion the first time I heard this concert. Stunning show!

That's OK
I still get shivers down my spine when I remember the end of "Pride" and the whole stadium singing it like one, and Bono being away from me 10 meters or so, uhhh

I wish they would do the same thing on September 23rd, 2005! :)

I love this show, but I can't listen to Last Night On Earth...

...because you can hear the exact point where Bono's voice snaps.

*sends shivers down Zoocoustic's spine*

Thanks guys,

You should also read Bill Carter's "Fools rush in", that book is like a background story of this concert.

I got that book too! I have read some of it so far but it sounds like a great book to read so cant wait to finish it.... BILL CARTER ROCKS!

I wonder if The Edge had read that book himself.... or has he? Im pretty sure Bill had sent them copies....

I still have the original article at home from NME issue covering the same concert and it was a very good article too! Though I wasnt at the concert I was still amazed to read about the reaction by the fans and Bono losing his voice but carried on regardless... AMAZING! Up there with the best U2 concerts ever!

VIVA SARAJEVO!!!!

I still consider that the best performance of Last Night on Earth ever. Sheer emotion on Bono´s voice despite all his pain, and a killer solo delivered by Mr. The Edge.
