and thanks JintheB, zoots and impy! i have to say making this list was fun and awful all at the same time. finding the songs was fun, but ranking them broke my heart.

glad you all enjoyed it! please feel free to email me if you want to hear any of those songs.

"lover's spit" - its good..but the lyrics "drinking lover's spit" makes me :yuck:

what does "drinking lover's spit" mean ?

Think about it.

Hint: it's not really about saliva.

whatever ..too graphic

and what about "swallowing words while giving heads" ..or something like that...

I find the song quite sexy. :sexywink:

I could never write 30 favourite songs, I have THREE solid favourites [one of which is missing because of this U2 ban we have operating here ] but have decided to add seven others, but they're not as 'set in stone' as the first three and i could never really choose 30+

1.
2. Radiohead - Lift
3. DEVO - Smart Patrol/Mr DNA
4. Daft Punk - Digital Love
5. Radiohead - [Nice Dream]
6. Polysics - For Young Electric Pop
7. Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother

:|
yeah, it's pretty much exactly what you think it is.

and i think it's supposed to sound, um, unpalatable. he's describing all these people who go from meaningless relationship to meaningless relationship, while he's found the person he wants to grow old with.

considering it's #2 on my list, i'm gonna have to go with joyfulgirl here and say i think it's incredibly romantic and sexy.

and by the way acrobatman, some lovely links have been sent to your email. :sexywink:

MrBrau, thank you for the songs.  I just got the opportunity to download them.

Out of curiosity what do you think of them?

I'm listening to the Aimee Mann song now and it's awesome.

I've been slowly downloading bits and pieces of her older music and I love her voice and her melodies and everything.

Aimee Mann is the shit. I've gone nuts over her in the past few years. GREAT live as well.

The Roots song has already made it onto a mix cd.

I also quite like the Concrete Blonde tune. Evil.

I'm going to have to look for some Belle and Sebastian and Nick Drake albums.

And that Darling Buds song, I heard that ages ago (like 15 years ago), was a nice surprise.

Im sorry ahead of time for the summary's I write for the songs, I am horrible at it, and forgive me.

30. Coldplay- Spies
Yes, Coldplay, Ive always loved this song from first listen, the Ebow intro, and the atomospheric feeling to it.

29. Sufjan Stevens- John Wayne Gacy Jr.
I just like it

28. My Morning Jacket- Death is the Easy Way
I love the lyrics, and the vocals are beautiful-tremelo guitar, and the whisperings--

27. Jeff Buckley- Last Goodbye
I love the bass, the chord proggressions, everything, great song.

26. Echo and the Bunnymen- No Dark Things
I love the desperation vocals drenched in reverb, the guitars are dark and messy.

25. Talk Talk- I believe in you
Sweet lyrics, you cant get more emotional feel, the music is really pretty.

24. Doves- Rise
"So Long" I love the tremolo vocals, something rising to the surface, its just a sweet song.

23. Tori Amos- Crucify
Great lyrics, .............

22.Sting- Wild Wild Sea
I like only old school Sting, this song is a great escape from life.
I love the lyrics, and the music makes you feel like you are what he is singing(if that makes sense)

21. Wilco - Radio Cure
No need to explain

20. Radiohead- Subteranian Homesick Alien
As you might know by now, I love atomospheric music. I love the opening riff, the ufo's being painted with the music, brilliant song.

19. Sigur Ros- Syndir Guos
The coolest noises- I love it

18. R.E.M- Gardening at Night
I love old school REM

17. Pink Floyd- Poles Apart
Division Bell is my favorite Pink Floyd album, although it's not as brilliant or genius as other floyd albums with Waters, I like it for many diffrent reasons. Id take Gilmours vocals over Waters anyday.

16. Wilderness- End of Freedom
I love the ringing guitars, and the overdriven guitars deep beneath the music, awesome song!

15. The Police- Spirits in the material world
How can you go wrong with the classic sound of The Police, palm muted guitar riffs, awesome bass riffs, catchy tunes.

14. Radiohead- Lozenge of Love
I absolutley love the vocals on this- enough said.

13. Kate Bush- Breathing

12. David Bowie- Sense of Doubt- Moss Garden

11. Depeche Mode- Stripped

10. Death Cab- Lightness
I could listen to the same guitar riff all day

9. Echo and the Bunnymen- All my colours

8. Pink Floyd- Take it back, Coming Back To Life
It should be one song

7. Arcade Fire- Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)

6. Doves- Sulpher Man
I wish they'd scrap the intro, but other then that, its one of my favorites from the Doves.

5. Bright Eyes- Lua
He is brilliant writer, and this song tells all.

4. The Clash- Straight to Hell Live- 82 Boston
Live version is so much better

3. Radiohead- In Limbo
This song reminds me of "Stings" Wild Wild Sea. I love the guitar riff, even though its the same 2 riffs throughout.

2. Doves- Cedar Room
Best Dove intro, great all around song

1. Radiohead- Dollars and Cents
First time I heard this song I thought he was saying- " we are the daughters of sin"

The chorus is brilliant, I love the buildup, the overdub vocals, just sweet.

We all know Radiohead is the 2nd greatest band right behind you know who.

Very nice, macphisto 23! I enjoy most of all that, apart from the inclusion of Coldplay and the fact that you'd take Gilmour's vocals over Waters'.

All My Colours is a brilliant song.

Although it may not be my absolute fav, Division Bell is heavenly!

Poles Apart and High Hopes are both favorites for me!

High Hopes is a great song, there's just too many greats!

It'll take me a bit to get this together, but I'm probably going to end up at 50, too, because I'm impossibly bad about narrowing things down.

Hmm... interesting challenge. I thought I'd have a go at it too; not perhaps THE 30 favourite songs but at least some of them. Not in any particular order:

1. Nick Cave & Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat
A song recounting the last moments of a man condemned to an electric chair. Brutal and intense as hell, with incredible lyrics from Mr. Cave.

2. Nick Cave & Bad Seeds - Stagger Lee
From their "Murder Ballads" album. Apparently, a reworked old folk song, with a pounding backbeat and lyrics so packed with obscenity and brutality it becomes really hard to take it seriously, especially when Nick delivers it all with such over-the-top bloodthirsty relish. I think it's one of the funniest songs ever.

3. PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
It's really hard to single out favourites in PJ's illustrious catalogue, but I really really love this one. It's an amazing opening track, slow-burning, sinister, sexy, with great dramatic vocals and eerie organ in the background.

4. Velvet Underground - Heroin
A masterpiece and one of the most intense songs ever recorded.

5. REM - Losing My Religion
Obvious, maybe, but it really is a bloody perfect, timeless song.

6. Marianne Faithful - Why D'ya Do It?
An X-rated rant about a betrayed love, with Faithful perfect as a wronged woman seething with anger and fury.

7. Common People - Pulp
Anthemic, funny and bitter song about the posh rich kids who think that "poor is cool". Witty, literate lyrics and perfect delivery from Jarvis Cocker.

8. Liz Phair - Divorce Song
Mostly for the lyrics, which depict a failing relationship with real honesty and sadness.

9. The Flaming Lips - Do You Realise?
A gorgeous bittersweet song about mortality that will make you want to hug your family, friends and the dog.

10. The Clash - Clash City Rocker
There's nothing like Joe Strummer's gruff voice shouting at you over aggressive guitar attack, :)

11. Nick Drake - Day is Done
A delicate, melancholic song that just breathes sadness, in a beautiful way.

12. Dead Can Dance - The Arrival and the Reunion
An opening "a capella" track of their "Aion" album, which has a strong medieval/renaissance flavour to it. It really shows off Lisa Gerrard's amazing voice.

13. Massive Attack - Teardrop
A sublime song that starts off with a stuttering drumbeat and a mesmerising hapsichord riff, with Liz Fraser (of the Cocteau Twins) haunting vocals a perfect match.

14. The Smiths - The Queen is Dead
I'm a sucker for dry British wit and I just adore Morrissey's lyrics on this one.

15. Gustav Holst - Mars, The Bringer of War
An ominous, violent, pounding, piece from Holst's "Planets" classical opus which apparently inspired John Williams to write "Imperial March" for Star Wars.

16. Tori Amos - Black-Dove (January)
It's hard to pick a favourite Tori song but this one just pulls me in. It's eerie and atmospheric and reminds me of a spooky old fairytale.

17. Sparklehorse - Eyepennies
A slow song with haunting piano and guest vocals from PJ Harvey.

18. Sleater-Kinney - I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone
Pure energy and fun.

19. Doves - Satellites
An epic from their "Last Broadcast" album - simply majestic.

20. The Breeders - Lime House
Melodic yet angular, insanely catchy song.

21. Kate Bush - King of the Mountain
A moody slow-burning track with great vocals from Kate.

22. Sigur Ros - Hjarta? Hamast
I love the entire "Agaetis Byrjin" album but this one is probably my favourite. When the vocals and music explode at about 3:00 mark it's a nearly-religious feeling.

23. Rasputina - Thimble Island
Cathy, folky "ye olde" song with lovely cello and cool water sound effects.

24. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
My favourite Floyd song; one of their most heart-felt moments and the acoustic guitar solos are just so beautiful.

25. Paula Cole - Feelin' Love
One of the sexiest songs ever IMO.

26. Roy Orbison - Mystery Girl
One of my favourite love songs, by one of the most spine-tingling voice ever.

27. Rammstein - Du Hast
I usually don't listen to this type of heavy music at all, but there's something awfully compelling about it. Must be those German vocals, :)

28. Martha Wainwright - Bloody Motherf***ing Asshole
Raw, angry f***-you song. Her voice is incredible.

29. Sinead O'Connor - You Made Me The Thief of Your Heart
Haunting and beautiful, and I like the "Irish" touches.

30. Radiohead - No Surprises
I loved this song even when I wasn't that much of a Radiohead fan.
