This is hard. As much as I hate these sort of threads, I am absolutely compelled to post anyway...
U2 ? Bad
Starsailor ? Born Again
Doves ? Cedar Room
Idlewild ? These Wooden Ideas
Elbow ? Scattered Black and Whites
Nick Drake ? Which Will
Ed Harcourt ? She fell into my arms
Neil Young ? Old Man
Bob Dylan ? Shelter from the Storm
The Verve ? On Your Own

So this is at the moment, yeah? I'm leaving U2 off because I never listen to them, and they haven't released anything in a while, so even though they're my favourite band of all time (or at least tied), they're not one of my favourite bands at the moment. Enough waffling; here you go:

1. Starsailor (Silence Is Easy....mostly for the live aspect of this song....it's just so sing-a-long)
2. Ed Harcourt (Sugarbomb.... and I have no other place to vent this, but I am SOOOOOOOO upset that I can't find one of my Ed singles :sad: )
3. Idlewild (These Are Just Years)
4. Doves (Cedar Room)
5. Elbow (Asleep In the Back)
6. Tom McRae (Streetlight)
7. Seafood (Similar Assassins)
8. Mojave 3 (A Room With a View)
9. Granada (Amazing It Seems)
10. Kent (Duett)

1. duran duran : new moon on monday
2. japan : swing
3. U2 (they've dropped to #3 because they're taking so long to release something new) : even better than the real thing or seconds
4. the police : every breath you take
5. inxs : never tear us apart
6. sting : i burn for you
7. fleetwood mac : sara
8. roxy music : avalon
9. no doubt : hella good
10. the cranberries : dreams

gotta go gotta go gotta go gotta go

u2-please, love is blindness, rtss, n and s of the river

jeff buckley-what will you say, morning theft, lover you should've come over, jewel box

rem-nightswimming, daysleeper, beat a drum, why not smile, sweetness follows, at my most beautiful

I listed my favorite song by each band - when I could actually choose a favorite.

In no particular order after the first one:

U2 - Kite

The Clash - Clash City Rocker
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
The Doors - End of the Night

neither, so I'll just pick one.

1) U2 - Stay

4) Manic Street Preachers - Roses In The Hospital
5) Crowded House - Four Seasons In One Day

other stuff that I have been listening to that doesn't actually qualify as a favourite band but I've been listening to a hell lot

1. Bush - Come Down
2. REM - Nightswimming
3. LiVE - Freaks
4. Blur - On Your Own
5. INXS - Beautiful Girl
6. Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me
7. Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
8. Crowded House - Mean To Me
9. Metallica - One

These all change.
U2 is my favourite but out of habit - Running To Stand Still is my personal song of choice, but like any band with a huge back catalog it gets pretty hard to determine an absolute favourite after a while.
