The August issue of Q celebrates the '80s so staffers had to answer the question: What's your favorite track of the '80s?
"Pride," "Sweet Child 'o Mine," "Jump" and "The Message" were a few of their choices.

So what's yours?

Mine is "Holiday." I adore Madonna and there's so much about that song that fits in with how I remember the '80s--fun, hopeful, bright and the tiniest bit cheesy.

Easy. 'Total Eclipse of the Heart'.

Either that or 'Wouldn't It Be Good' by Nik Kershaw.

I could name the Smiths or something but I figured I'd stick with the shiny pop stuff.

me neither, i'd have to give a top 20 list or something and i still would not do that decade justice.

Me too - but if we were talking about just U2 then it would have to be Pride, Streets or WOWY

Too many, as it was the best era for music.
But of all of u2s 80's singles - with or without you.

It's hard! I grew up in the '80s. My early childhood was filled with Duran Duran, Wham!, Corey Hart, Bryan Adams...the list of brilliance is endless! Of those, however, I'd have to say Duran Duran's melodies have had lasting sticking power--especially Rio and Save a Prayer.

In terms of serious music, I eventually got into U2 in a very big way...Streets, oh Streets. It's probably still my favourite, but it gets better now when I leave it alone for a long time.

Probably the best song of the '80s that too few know about (and one that I somehow only managed to hear for the first time last year) is The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen.

So many hidden gems in the '80s, beneath all the sugar...but even the sugar was better than today's sugar.

I could probably make a Top 100 songs from the '80s - both works of musical genius and works of irresistable musical cheese - and have tons left that I wanted to fit in but simply couldn't.

Here's just a few off the top of my head:

U2 - With or Without You
Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime
Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon
Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
Prince - When Doves Cry
Bruce Springteen - Brilliant Disguise
B-52s - Love Shack
Crowded House - Don't Dream It's Over
Eurythmics - Would I Lie to You?
INXS - Listen Like Thieves
The Pretenders - Middle of the Road
Terence Trent D'Arby - Sign Your Name
The Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian

^^haha, me too! :D

How 'bout 'Blue Monday' by New Order

or .. 'She Sells Sanctuary' by the Cult  Awwww .. the Cult, I loooooooooved the Cult!!!

There are far too many to choose from, but one sticks out in my memory as I heard it on my sister's 80's complilation CD a while back:

Electric Dreams - Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder - I bloody love this song!

1.U2- New Years Day first song I heard by them before I knew who they were.

2.Moderen English- Melt with you

3.Billy Idol- Flesh for Fantasy

I loved Micheal Jackson, Madonna , and Run DMC too.( I was just a kid in the 80's but that is when my love for music began)

I can't possibly pick just one song. That's my entire childhood there...

EXACTLY!!! God, it would be hard just to do a top 10 from one single 80s band! Like The Cure. From the 80's alone you have to choose between "Close To Me", "Pictures of You", "Just Like Heaven", "Boys Don't Cry", "In Between Days", "Let's Go To Bed", "Lullaby", "A Forest", "Primary", "Hot! Hot! Hot!", "Fascination Street" . . . and those are just the hit songs, not even counting all of "Pornography"! Then you have to do Depeche Mode, U2, Madonna, Prince, New Order, The Smiths and on and on and on . . .

Impossible. 1 song. Impossible.
