For me it's either:

"Myrrh" from Heyday

or

"Destination" from Starfish

Both songs perfectly set the mood for their respective albums and both are wonderful individual songs.

Both by The Church, of course.

For this one I would have to go with AtomicBono. "Where The Streets Have No Name" has one of the best intros ever. I mean the build up is incredible. It is even better live. One of the best versions I listened to was "Auld Lang Syne" as the intro. You could feel the emotion just by listening to it.

Here are soe close contenders:

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana

"Enter Sandman" - Metallica

"Born In The U.S.A." - Bruce Springsteen

"Zoo Station" - U2

"Thunder Road" - Bruce Springsteen

And that's about it for now

Not sure about absolute favorite, but...

"Writing To Reach You - Travis, The Man Who
"Zoo Station" - U2, Achtung Baby
"Cadence to Arms" - Dropkick Murphys, Do or Die
"Badlands" - Bruce Springsteen, Darkness on the Edge of Town
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - The Beatles, SPLHCB
"Everything in Its Right Place" - Radiohead
"Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns N Roses, Appetite for Destruction
"Rock n Roll Star" - Oasis, Definitely Maybe
"London Calling" - The Clash, London Calling

tons more.

'Know Your Rights' that introduces 'Combat Rock'.

Sure it's not that strong an album, but 'this is a public service announcement...with GUITAR!'

Now that's fantastic.

Bush's Razorblade Suitcase. Gavin's dog Winstan begins the album with a nice little growl/heavy breathing number. Any album which opens with a growly panting dog wins.

good constuctive arguement there. Yes, after the first couple of songs on their album, they do, but it doesn't mean I can't like like the way the piano fades in at the start.

if I may add one:

Stereophonics - Performance & Cocktails
