this is not your favorites though obviously its easy to get the two mixed up.

these 10 are what i believe to be the top 10 acts in the world today.

1. radiohead
2. sigur ros
3. beck
4. pearl jam
5. future sound of london
6. u2
7. gy!be
8. rem
9. the reindeer selection (for kicks)
10. zwan (for wanderer :sexywink: )

who do you think is tops on the planet in terms of "overall greatness?"

Incredibly difficult, and changes on a daily basis, but of folks making music today:

1. Wilco
2. The Shins
3. Destroyer
4. Flaming Lips
5. Will Oldham
6. Super Furry Animals
7. Beck
8. The Mountain Goats
9. XTC
10. Paul Westerberg

Depending on their next albums, Radiohead and U2 could both easily see a return to my top 10. Based on the last release of each, Radiohead is between 10 and 20th place and U2 is probably between 40 and 60.

oh, and since "best band in the world" makes absolutely zero sense, this is of course a list of my current favorite bands. (as i think salome implied, the two are essentially the same thing, unless you are one of those "music is objective" freaks ;) )

Wilco
New Model Army
U2
the Ex
the Chameleons
Billy Bragg and the blokes
the Supersuckers
the Alarm
Interpol
Millionaire

you spelled "spandeu ballet" wrong, fucker.:madspit:

You forgot Journey.

Also, I am one of those 'music is objective' freaks. Music is objective. There, I said it. Objectively speaking, music is objective and anyone who disagrees with me is subjective. As in, music is the object and you are the subject. Or something.

Top ten bands in the world today, ah I'd be flat out coming up with four. Who knows?

I'll go out on a limb and say it's probably none of the above.

Let's say for the sake of argument that it's not Journey or KC and the Sunshine Band, or REO Speedwagon. That narrows it down a bit.

:hmm:

in no particular order   :

Radiohead
Sigur Ros
U2
REM
pearl jam
audioslave
zwan
janes addiction

perhaps i should have inserted the great and powerful, never reduntant acdc?

look, i know this thread is boring, but im bored. i just wanted to see a few of your lists. smart ass remarks from salome are expected, but thats because hes predictable.

so true
funny how it seems
always in time
but never in line for dreams
head over heels from toe to toe
this is the sound of my soul!
this is the sound!
I bought a ticket to the world
but now I've come back again
why do I find it hard to write the next line
oh I want the truth to be known...

I forgot where the 'listening to Marvin' line goes, but who can't love that whole 'ba-ba-ba-ba-ba' bit, eh?

indeed it did, something like 5 plus years between albums for Peter, the new one is good, although I expected more after such a long layoff.......:|
