I agree.

White male rock bands are the pinnacle of the aural art and musical performance.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, does it better than white male rock bands.

By the same token I can question why everyone always neglects Bhutanese music. It's always white male rock bands. Highly Euro/America-centric. Probably a holdover from colonial/patriachal attitudes.

It's like how a tie becomes a phallic symbol of female subservience.

1. Neil Finn
2. Steven Wilson
3. James LaBrie
4. Freddie Mercury
5. Mikael Akerfeldt

Fitzchivalry, you left Eddie Murphy off your list. :tsk:

Well, these three are my big favourites... after them I like lots and lots of vocalists in a similar way, I can't choose only two to fill the top5.

Thom Yorke, Waters/Gilmour, Freddie Mercury, Roger Daltrey, Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Jeff Buckley, Liam/Noel, ...

As of right now, Feist probably has my favorite voice. You could make a strong case for eugenics if it resulted in more Feists in the world.

Jeff Tweedy, of course. This photo is actually from the first time I saw Wilco. Obviously, I didn't take it.

Chan Marshall is certainly up there.

This list isn't complete for me without a Damien Rice mention.

And I'd be hard pressed not to include our old pal Bono

In terms of pure vocal ability, however, I would say that Sarah McLachlan would top my list. Her voice is simply ethereal.

She's truly amazing

What the hell???

To me, if you put that much thinking into the music you like or don't like, there's a problem. I love music because of the way it makes me feel, not because I choose to alienate a certain group, or not be all-inclusive. Whether you're Chinese, vertically-challenged, or even Mr. Brau, if you've got a great song that truly moves me, I'll listen.

My top five:

1. Bono
2. Eddie Vedder
3. Thom Yorke
4. Neil Young
5. John Lennon
