There must be more of these somewhere.

There must be more of these somewhere.

My brother was in Alice Springs recently and apparently dingos actually do roam the streets there. He saw heaps of them. Same with Coober Pedy. They beg for food and scavange around garbage bins. So uh yeah, I guess stereotypes do happen in the Outback. Didn't see a single roo though, which is strange.

Are dingoes something to be afraid of, or is that a urban legend/stereotype, too?

They're really just wild dogs, so yeah, they are dangerous. I've only seen them in the wild once and they were just hanging around on a beach. I doubt they'd come up and start attacking groups of people, but you'd be silly to leave a kid around them.

So we booted up my laptop for the first time since the accident tonight, and I'm blown away - it works! I'm posting from it now and I've salvaged my most recent work and other files that missed my last data backup.

In other news, sometimes hangovers are a bitch. Others are a friendly reminder of a night well spent. Got the latter today. Good times!

Oh god, I remember that now. Was that a Kiwi only show? There was some sort of Australian equivalent but I'm certain it ended a couple of years ago.

We do have some reality show based on Priscilla Queen of the Desert coming up soon though, so... uh, rock on gang!

I've no idea if it's been cancelled, but it's not on in New Zealand right now, I can at least say that much.

Though who knew I'd find one of the best pizza places I've been to in my life in a tiny country town half an hour outside of Whangarei! Had a couple of awesome meals there lately ... in between epic country walks. My legs are close to falling off.

My next tattoo is going to be of a platypus.

Now I just need to find someone who can draw a decent-looking platypus, and not end up with a brown Perry from Phineas and Ferb.

Hey, Assver, why didn't you tell me you listened to Emergency & I and dropped it a 4/5? Fuck yeah! It's not often that you hand out ratings like that to albums in my top 25. As a matter of fact, that hasn't happened, outside of U2 stuff.

Hah, I've been playing it a bit lately actually. First listen a couple of months ago, I gave it just a 3.5, but it went straight up to a 4 on second listen (I think it helped that I skipped that Jitters song). We were cranking it in the car the other day; good times.

What else is in your top 25? Lately I've been kind of contemplating making a top albums sort of list on RYM, a top 50 or even 100, but like every time I've thought of doing that, I just end up thinking it'll be a huge, pointless task and I won't be happy with the result. Nobody really cares anyway whether I rank Nowhere #4 or #14 or #24.

I have no idea where my CD copy went, but I do play that album a lot on the iPod when I'm out. Memory Machine and What Do You Want Me To Say get me fired up before class.

Clearly, I was wrong about the only 4+ you handed out being to Zooropa and Emergency & I because Animals and Station To Station are on there. This list feels incomplete to me because I only have one album per artist, but if I had multiple per artist, it would look even worse.

Didn't know you rated Zooropa as U2's #1. Or maybe I did, but forgot. Also didn't know you rated Head on the Door of all things as The Cure's best. Kind of surprised to see Queen in your top 100, and The Go-Betweens I expected to be higher.

Oh and as for the rest of your top 25, I've also given 4/5 to The Stone Roses.

There is too much music to be listened to these holidays.

>spends most time listening to Mumiy Troll

Yeah, I actually rank Zooropa, Joshua Tree and Pop ahead of Achtung Baby. I'm an odd duck, what can I say.

What would that list look like if it wasn't limited to one per artist?

You should write a sentimental post on Aja.

It would just be a massive block of U2, Beatles, Bowie, Zeppelin, Neil Young and Pink Floyd albums.

Maybe I will. It was the first classic rock album I ever loved. I was like 9 years old when I first heard it.

Yeah, I actually rank Zooropa, Joshua Tree and Pop ahead of Achtung Baby. I'm an odd duck, what can I say.

Well, I rank those three ahead of Achtung too, but I throw five or so others into the mix too.

I've got a list of my 5/5, 4.5/5 and most 4/5 albums on RYM ranked (it seemed the best way to avoid missing anything). It runs to about 170 albums and I made it a month or so ago; I didn't limit myself to only one or two albums by each band, though I did stop myself if I felt like a band was getting over-represented. Still think I'm reasonably content with much of the list. This is the top fifty:

1. Anathema: Judgement
2. Porcupine Tree: Stupid Dream
3. U2: The Unforgettable Fire
4. Pure Reason Revolution: The Dark Third
5. Alcest: Souvenirs d'un autre monde
6. Russian Circles: Station
7. Agalloch: Pale Folklore
8. Ride: Nowhere
9. U2: Boy
10. Porcupine Tree: Lightbulb Sun
11. The Chills: Submarine Bells
12. The Cure: Faith
13. Agalloch: The Mantle
14. Joy Division: Unknown Pleasures
15. Whipping Boy: Heartworm
16. Agalloch: Ashes Against the Grain
17. The Church: Séance
18. Alcest: Les voyages de l'ame
19. Split Enz: Frenzy
20. Pure Reason Revolution: Hammer and Anvil
21. Pink Floyd: Animals
22. Alcest: Ecailles de lune
23. Crowded House: Together Alone
24. Anathema: Alternative 4
25. God Is an Astronaut: All Is Violent, All Is Bright
26. Isis: Wavering Radiant
27. Crowded House: Crowded House
28. Pinback: Summer in Abaddon
29. Thy Catafalque: Rengeteg
30. REM: Fables of the Reconstruction
31. Porcupine Tree: Deadwing
32. Pinback: Autumn of the Seraphs
33. Kyuss: Welcome to Sky Valley
34. Russian Circles: Empros
35. Pure Reason Revolution: Amor Vincit Omnia
36. Swervedriver: Mezcal Head
37. Orphaned Land: Mabool
38. Porcupine Tree: In Absentia
39. The Verve: A Storm in Heaven
40. Washed Out: Within and Without
41. Blackfield: Blackfield II
42. Anathema: A Fine Day to Exit
43. Buddha on the Moon: Stratospheric
44. The Church: The Blurred Crusade
45. Explosions in the Sky: The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place
46. Thursday: Full Collapse
47. The Chameleons: Script of the Bridge
48. The Chills: Brave Words
49. Russian Circles: Geneva
50. U2: The Joshua Tree

If Together Alone isn't in my top 100, it probably will be soon. Damn fine album.

Pale Folklore is your favorite Agalloch album? I actually haven't gone back that far yet. I love The Mantle.

You like something by Thursday? Woah. I listened to their last one and it was OK.

Also...new Alcest already? I guess I envy you, having a new favorite like that.

The problem with my top ten is that it looks something like U2 U2 Springsteen U2 Springsteen Gabriel The Cure U2 The Killers Bon Iver
