When you are in invisible mode do people see a message that you have signed off?

Yes. The pop-up notification will show that you've signed off.

Exactly, thus the whole point in being invisible and using this option...so no one sees you sign on or off.....or sees that you are idle. Same with AIM when you block people. They don't see when you are online or when you sign off.
