finally caved in and bought X&Y earlier this week, and I found it to be overdone

I think coldplay tried to be too perfect with the album, it is an overproduced spectacle similar to bruce springsteen's human touch in terms of overproduction

the songs are good, but it seems like the band tried to hard to make a perfect album

parachutes and a rush of blood to the head are stronger albums IMO

i don't hate anyone here.

kid a kills people with awesome. even mr brau

obviously

why else do you think he hates it? cause it "sucks"?

hardly

cause it literally killed him. he's undead now, and it's how he continues to post from beyond the grave.

Well, X&Y isn't an overproduced spectacle, it's a top-heavy, tear-jerking, nonsensical-lyrical no-meaningly bad vibration-causing, piece of crap.

Seri0sly, X&Y is the lyrical equivilant of creamed corn or mushy peas.
You can arrange them however you want but it's still the same old runny crap. Dayum...
For instance.....

You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me
and that’s what made me see where I was going wrong
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
No colour or light

All you ever wanted was love
But you never looked hard enough
It's never gonna give itself up
Never gonna give itself up

You see the world in black and white
Not painted right
How long before you decide
Before I know what it feels like?
Ideas that you'll never find
Or the inventors could never design
And no reason, or rhyme
What if you should decide

All those signs, I knew what they meant
Some things you can't invent
Is there anywhere you wanna go?
Is there anything you wanna know?
Is there anybody out there who
Is lost and hurt and lonely too

Maybe you'll get what you wanted
Maybe you'll stumble upon it

All you ever wanted was love
But you never looked hard enough
It's never gonna give itself up
Never gonna give itself up

And I will try to fix you

So Coldplay is to lyrics what Oasis is to chord progressions.

Okay...I KNOW there are tons of Coldplay threads, and I know that threads DO get derailed at times...but, come on. Please only use this thread to discuss X&Y.

A thank ya!

I actually kind of like the album :reject:

I still haven't heard the whole album yet. All I heard was "Speed of Sound" on the radio, and I wouldn't say it was awful...but I didn't think it sounded like anything special.

X & Y is the musical equivalent of cocktail party finger-food. It's fine for something to wash down your drink with but it doesn't sustain you.

X & Y disappointed me bigtime. I was a huge fan before that.

Exactly! A Rush of Blood to the Head had a lot more depth (esp. live). I've heard worse than X & Y lately, but it is too lite for existing fans.

Ah c'mon! Give us our rare moment of joy. :|
If we really, seriously want to discuss the good and bad aspects of X & Y we can always choose one of the 40 other threads that are mentioned in the Band Index. No shortage of Coldplay threads here.

So instead I want to say that I hate that I don't really have anything to hate.

Not even the evil blue. :reject:

I hate most beer. The question should rather be "is there a beer you like?"

Interestingly, you could substitute "Coldplay song" in for "beer" and the above would still work, despite being grammatically incorrect in the first sentence.

I hate incorrect grammar.
