Hey I just read in the paper that an unidentified NHL team contacted Winnipeg city officials about the feasibility of moving to Winnipeg. I think this is awesome! That would rock and while we're at it bring back a team to Quebec City(although I doubt that will happen soon!)

I think that moving a team back to Winnipeg would be great for not only the city, but for Canadian hockey in general. Think about this for a second....an American team moving to Canada, and Winnipeg of all places, because of finacial troubles.

This is going to be like the Minnesota Wild all over again. A city that loses an NHL team, then realizes the mistake...gets one back and sells out the season tickets.

Bottom line....good for the NHL...good for Winnipeg...Good for Canada.

can it happen financially though?

Look at Ottawa....Look at all the smaller market Canadian teams...could they REALLY survive?

They have so far... even against the best attempts of the dollar to change it.

But with economic renewal, and the prospects of revisions to the outdated CBA... it's not an impossibility.

Winnipeg has a decent infrastructure now... and apparently they're making way for a new arena. I'd like to think this time around stupid political posturing won't rob my home town of a chance at franchisedom.

Come on down Carolina or Nashville... although I'd be more inclined to think Hogtown Hamilton would get the hosting duties ahead of the Peg.

Two points!

It hurts me ALMOST as much as it hurts you to see NHL franchises in hockey hotbed such as Tampa Bay, Carolina and Nashville, rather than Hamilton, Winnipeg and Quebec City (Regina or Saskatoon even). Follow the money...or something. (by the way, I think Asia is better represented in the NHL - with players - than any Southern US state).

Also, yes...Hamilton before "the Peg."

i cant see the nhl letting this happen. bettman is too proud.

but i hope it does.

tootoo playing in manitoba would be cool.
