Some of the rap songs I can tolerate, but most of them are just plain stupid. Fabolous, Petey Pablo, Ludacris...ugh! I can't stand those guys, and all their videos are the same- take place in a club with girls shaking their half-covered asses in front of the camera. WTF?

Yeah! And they walk round with pants so low u'd tink they had a months supply of dung in there!!!!!!!!

so the question is......are the crotches 'pushed' down under dung weight?
Or have they just got to make themselves look ridiculously 'bigger' than ur normal wee man?

lets ask Popkid, he would know.

I don't think it's fair to criticize a genre based on the fruitlessness some of the party/booty rappers put forth. Rap is a very powerful means of expression. It serves to voice the anger a large population feels - and the party side of that music serves as just that - a way to party and forget about the everyday struggles many face, that perhaps many of us do not experience.

You probably haven't heard any of the intelligent and political rap that's out there because most of it isn't on commercial radio or television. Mos Def, Common, Nas, Public Enemy.. they don't receive alot of airtime anymore or at all. OutKast is brilliant, and they are just now receiving attention based on a few very commercial songs - but they are extremely intelligent and very talented at the music they produce, and most of it is not of the booty variety..

I guess my point is that you shouldnt stereotype the rap genre just because radio stations choose to push the bling-bling rap and not the intelligent rap. Saying that most of it is "stupid" is not a fair thing to say. Perhaps saying "it's not my cup of tea, but I can see why others enjoy it" would be far less explosive or dismissive.

I certainly don't enjoy the rap-rock that is popular right now - but it's because it's not my cup of tea. I wouldn't dare to characterize the music based on what an ass Fred Durst seems to be.

Okay, I didn't mean to stir up controversy. Some people take things too seriously! It's called an "opinion." And I'm not going to apologize for it. I think artists like Mos Def, Fugees, and Outkast are great. But a lot of the rappers I see on MTV need to get new material for their songs, as well as new videos for their songs.

I'm not asking you to apologize, and yes I certainly know what an opinion is, and the right to have one.

But you have to consider also that you are talking about MTV. Many "artists" do not control their image - and many are in it for the Big Bucks. Some don't have integrity, and some are just building an audience, getting their name out there. The rappers you see on MTV are not at all representative of the best the rap world has to offer, except for OutKast. MTV has a very narrow, small mind. Thank goodness BET is out there getting some of the good rap music played - otherwise many would have no other exposure to it.

Even Lauryn Hill, as lauded as she is - came out recently and stated that her "image" back in the day was all for maximum exposure - it was not how she truly felt, or how she wanted to be represented.

Personally, I just try not to criticize genres of music that are not necessarily intended for my enjoyment or understanding.

Hahaha.. BJork.. I'll assume you are a girl.. Hence the immense hatred of Lud.. Ludacris is one of the funniest rappers out there, that's what he's going for.. just to make ya'll laugh, And he's pretty sweet at it.. Fabolous... I think his raps flow like pure poetry.. I'm a huuuge Nas fan.. But I'm not really a fan of Mos def.. Actually I think he sucks, but we're all entitled to our opinion

But anyways, I'm not going to try and defend the videos, cuz they're all pretty shitty.. I mean sometimes there are good 'booty shakin' ones, but on the whole they're just the same thing over and over..

If you're a fan of 'good' rap groups, Have you ever listened to Tribe Called Quest..

Im the Grand-daddy Rapper of this town I?ll have you know

I can move real sleek, I can move with style
Ok I must admit, these movements take a while

I cannot sit for very long, or even at that just stand
But hey, my sweet mofos, I can still flip backward on one hand

Sometimes u hear a squeakin, sometimes you see brown sappy
One is me leg, the other leakage from me nappy

I like to thrust it baby, I do it everyday
And pple are impressed by me and even leave some pay

Im never gonna give this up, no matter how much older
Me and me brothers all look fine, mind u, their clothers are much bolder

But let me tell u this, when I die, I wanna see
Half-a-dozen naked rap video babes where Im to be?

I love Arrested Development, still, although you dont really here about them anymore = and would they even be considered rap?? dont mind me.

I have been an avid rap fan for more than 10 years now. But even I get frustrated with how stupid some of them act. For me, it's about the music. Although I'm not much for any videos by Fabolous, I like his rapping style. And "half-covered asses" is being pretty generous. Some of the videos lately are closer to soft-core porn than music videos. And yes, all the videos are starting to run together.

So while I still love the music, I can see how people get frustrated with the image that rappers project.

And Bjork, Petey Pablo does suck. "Take your shirt off, wave it round your head like a helicopter" does nothing for me.
