CELINE DION'S HUSBAND BLOWS MILLIONS GAMBLING
Los Angeles, Wednesday 2 January: CELINE DION's husband RENE ANGELIL has lost $9 million dollars (?6 million pounds) gambling in Las Vegas.
The 59-year-old music manager lost the money while playing at the card tables at the exclusive CAESAR'S PALACE CASINO over the last decade, according to America's STAR MAGAZINE.
Friends are fearing when Dion and her husband move to Las Vegas in 2003, so Dion can play daily shows at Caesar's, Angelil will be even more tempted to gamble.
One source claims Angelil blew $4.5 million (?3 million) in 1997, playing 141 hours of Blackjack, meaning he lost $31,000 (?25,000) every hour.
The source also reports Angelil threw down $32,000 (?26,000) for each hand during a period of 30 hours gambling in December 2000. The source says, "He's by no stretch of the imagination, the biggest gambler at Vegas. But he hardly ever wins."
A friend of the couple says, "Rene has been gambling for as long as he and Celine have been together. He never tried to hide it. "They got a whole new outlook on life when Rene found himself facing a life or death struggle with throat cancer two years ago."
9 Million Dollars
And they're moving to Vegas? Talk about throwing money away-that's just unbelievable.
