i also just recently heard a song by a group called ok go (mediocre people do exceptional things all the time). it was very impressive. another new song i liked was from a band called the raveonettes, another boy/girl duo, this time from scandanavia.

Okgo :yuck:
Ravonettes :slant:

white stripes have been around for a long time
just getting popular

audioslave would not even enter the top 10 of the best new bands...the 90's recycled

Sigur Ros
Broken Social Scene
Goldfrapp
Postal Service
Manitoba

these are the bands that are thinking unique and which will influence the future

I liked how pitchfork described Sigur Ros

"not post-rock...pre - whatever comes in the 21st century"

all these new bands suck its a shame. is rock&roll dead?

Rock is dead they say,
Long Live Rock.

They've been saying that since the late seventies. Maybe you need to re-evaluate your definition of Rock. There are a lot of great bands out there, who may not have a Zeppelin type cataloge, but maybe someday they might fit into that pantheon. It's been a long lonely, lonely, lonely time my friend, but Rock ain't dead.

Good Day. I say Good Day.

i cant heare you. i said woman... way down inside you..... need it ..lovvvvvvvvvvvve. ill keep it cool baby.

there are no definite rock bands any more. 70 was zep, 80s was u2 .2000 is?

There must be a bushel in your hedgerow.

My point basically is that you can't judge these bands yet. The point of this thread is "who is the best band post-2000". Which is of course a very subjective question. HOWEVER, the topic does not ask if these bands measure up to par with classic Rock legends. Further, the subject doesn't limit the field of artists to Rock. I really can't answer who the definite rock bands are presently, because you'd simply refute it. Shaun, it's your choice whether you can ride the Magic Bus of these new artists, or give them the Misty Mountain toss. That's the thought of an entirely different discussion.

i know what you are saying but name one band that is rock.(its hard i know because there are no rock bands any more)
audioslave is kind'a good but lets see what they give us in 5 years.

Thank you, exactly what I mean. There are some potentially great new artists, but let's give them time to grow.

I don't know what the future brings, but it makes me wonder...

oooo oooo oooo, it really makes me wonder.

How can you classify something as truly rock, when it is a very diverse and dynamic medium. What is rock now is not the same as it used to be; there aren't any mainstream music genres that have survived a long period without expansion, change, or extinction. The rock I love may never be again, but maybe something new and exciting may take shape out of this "dead" genre.

Good times, Bad times my friend. It'll all work out in the end.

Carpe Diem

people are always talking about how rock is dying and whatnot

I for one am prepared to let rock, as we know it, go

The Canadian Rock definitely...

I'm prepared to let Newfoundland go in a heartbeat. Where do I sign?

you can sign on my FIST!!!!!

don't use a permanent marker though, they're a bitch to wash out

You callin' me out fisherman?

I'll sign your newfie fist, when you kiss this albie ass...

I'm a Mad Albertan.

Looks like the Labrador is scared of the dawg from the West...

My beef is with you greenhorn, question is... whatcha gonna do aboot it?

I'm not from labrador....

*dramatic tone*

i HAVE no labrador....

To answer your other question...I'm gonna throw you into the sea...cos you prairie folk would probably be confused as hell by it

"AHHHH....what am I in? it's salty and blue!"

Of course, we also have

Joni mitchell
Rufus Wainwright
Hawksley Workman
Royal City
Hayden
Godspeed you Black Emperor!
Manitoba
Blue Rodeo
the Constantines

to name a few which are very good

Not to mention Barenaked Ladies!

I guess I should throw my hat into the ring in this thread...it's hard because a lot of people who have gotten *famous* since 2000 were around before that. But if we just go by who has gotten famous since 2000, I'll say the White Stripes.

how the hell did I forget Cohen?!?!?!?!

damn me to the lowest hell

Young was already mentioned

You forgot to include "The New Pornographers".

A Canadian band, and they probably would be on a my list as one of the best new bands since 2000.
