Another vote for Nirvana, and another vote for Radiohead being even more overrated. I think it's the fans who tend to get very 'religious' - and therefore hypersensitive and defensive - in their following of those two bands that make it so.

While I am a fan of Nirvana (though I am nowhere near as much of a fan as I am for Oasis), I reckon the Smashin' Pumpkins were probably the more innovative and important of the early 90's "grunge" acts.

Distinctive and unique sound, absorbing lyrics, devoted fan base and two timeless albums...

pearl jam couldn't be farther from a "grunge" band if they tried... they just keep getting lumped into that genre because they came from seattle in the early 90s.

I like the both of them well enough and I don't really give a crap whether they're 'rated' by other people or not.

PJ is certainly not over-rated, especially not nowadays. Until last year's album, their work since Vitalogy had been virtually ignored despite having a bunch of gems.

Radiohead as much as I love them I agree is over-rated, they're not innovative, they're just...weird, a lot of different influences put together in a package that all of the elitists think makes them cool for listening to. Their only great albums are The Bends, and OK Computer, with a handful of great songs over the course of their others. Thom Yorke is a unique songwriter/vocalist.

Exactly! How can anybody call Pearl Jam, of all bands, overrated??! They have been totally under the radar until the self titled one was released. It would be like calling Muse overrated.

Nirvana - they changed nothing, things were changing anyway with or without them

As for Oasis, they are little more than a speck on the face of the musical landscape in the US, so thy're NOT rated at all

Me. :raiseshand:

I get so bored listening to most of their music. Sure, Eddie's got a powerful voice, but the music behind it is

I find Pearl Jam underrated.
A lot of people have brushed them off after their heyday of the early 90s, but they've continued to make great music since then IMO.

Also, they are second to none when it comes to their loyalty to their music and their fan base.

Now...back to the thread topic.

Not liking a band is not the same as saying they're overrated!

Spot on.

The amount of radiohead and PJ love-ins on this board is quite baffling.

Anyway, i think Nirvana are more overrated. Took credit for a movement which the Pixies had already started. They did some good songs and they did some bad songs. I don't understand all the hype around them really.
