I didn't think about that. I was just including the bands, but you could list solo artists, too.

Oh, yeah. Love 'em. There's a CW appreciation thread somewhere on this site, I posted on there once or twice. I am bummed they broke up, and their last album was such a let down, but, their first 4 albums, and their B-sides collection are, to me, amazing. Saw them LIVE a few times out in LA, they were great. They opened one show with "Strange Fruit" and it just blew the roof off of the place.

The lead singer, Rob Dickinson, released a solo album. It was pretty good, a little mellow.

U2
Pavement/Stephen Malkmus
Bob Dylan
Steely Dan
Prince
Radiohead
New Order
Joni Mitchell
Super Furry Animals
Spoon

I tried to only include artists that are still recording new music as I hate the idea of having something unchanging on a list of favorites. Otheriwse The Beatles and The Replacements would be pretty high up there, and R.E.M. has an opportunity to get back on my list if they ever release a decent album this decade.
