I play piano, and if I was to learn another classical instrument, it would be cello. Cellos have such gorgeous tone.

My opinion take cello lessons, and learn guitar on your own.

i guess it depends what kind of music you want to play. if you want to play u2 then go for guitar, if you like classical music then go for the cello. not that it's impossible to play a variety of styles of music on both instruments, of course. (why am i stating the obvious?)

It depends on your preference of music.

Cello is a very beautiful instrument, but not easy to learn. The instrument may be more expensive. You will have to practise often before you can handle it with delight. When you have achieved that, though, it may give you more pleasure. The sound of a chello has a wonderful heart-wrenching quality, so if you want that, go for it.

Electric guitar? Compared to the chello, it is easy to have good results. You can start with a cheap Ibanez, an amplifier with effects (or if you want, get a Strat with Marshall from the start)and as soon as you touch the strings of your guitar the first time, the VVVRRROOOOOOOOOOMMM will satisfy you - you will have the feeling of being a skilled musician long before you really are. It may be more fun, but the classical, stylish quality of the chello isnt there - except if you get an acoustic guitar and learn how to play like a young spanish god.

So, in the end its your choice. If you want something relatively easy, where you can proceed quickly, and where you will have lots of rock, get the guitar. If you want something with deep emotion that will cost you a lot of time, go for the chello.

Being a musician, I wont vote, because it really depends on you. Its like the difference between a milkshake and a fine old red wine, like the difference between a Porsche and a Rolls Royce, like the difference between a loft in NYC and a villa at a secret place, surrounded by roses.

You want both.

choose the guitar! Cause then you'll be prepared to jam with U2 when they bring you up on stage. Not so sure they'd have a cello ready for ya.
