I wouldn't consider Madonna Italian. While some of her family comes from there, she was born in the USA and has the US nationality.

edit: Both Toots Thielemans and Plastic Bertrand are from Belgium, not France. (My pick for Belgium would be Jacques Brel)

OK, since I couldn't come up with many bands from many countries (unless I cheated and just mined from what everyone has already posted), I decided to do this a bit differently (and you can smack me if you want!).

I'm picking only one band...and then picking why certain countries remind me of this band.

The band: The Church (as if you couldn't guess....)

The countries:

usa -- one member lives in NYC (there are many, many other things that remind me of the Church here....)
canada -- joking with SK (the singer/bassist) about having to smuggle him into the US from Canada
ireland -- SK started a still unfinished project with Frank Kearns of Cactus World News
england -- two members (SK and MWP) were born here
scotland -- the only scotsman I know is a huge Church fan
france -- the band played a less than well attended show in france this spring
germany -- umm...got nothing right now
italy -- I have a pretty cool bootleg video from a 1990 show in Italy
australia -- well...they formed in OZ and are still based there
denmark -- ...nothing
finland -- nope, nothing either
sweden -- two members have Swedish children and have lived in Sweden for several years each
new zealand -- drummer/producer (Tim) is from NZ
holland -- marijuana's legal there. Band LOVES that! So do most of their fans....
wales -- nothing here either...
spain -- SK misread a notation in a notebook he was asked to sign...the album title Priest=Aura came out of that
norway -- the only person I know living in Norway is also a huge Church fan
iceland -- nuttin'
romaina -- still nuttin'
south africa -- nope. nothing here either
brasil -- I think they played in Brasil during the Starfish/GAF era.

Well, that's about it for me...
