"When I started to go travelling, on my own."

My first vacation this year was a great week around St Patty's Day, spent in New York w/some wonderful Interlanders.

Mr. Blu & I just got back from our second 'vacation' last night - we spent a week in Biloxi, MS doing volunteer construction on a Hurricane Katrina rebuild. Wow... Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach - 'sad' doesn't even begin to cover it. It's no exaggeration to say that in a 10 mile stretch of Hwy 90, which runs right along the Gulf, I only saw 5 private homes that have been completely rebuilt. Everything else is either a home in some stage of reconstruction or a brand new condo, hotel, or casino - when there's anything being built at all. :(

Kelly & I are already talking about when we can go back. There're still so many people who have Federal grant money to buy their construction materials but can't afford the bloated labor costs to rebuild. Volunteers are the only option except for the few homeowners who have the skills to rebuild themselves - and there are very few of those.

:reject: But I didn't mean to jump on my soapbox & derail the thread! Let's hear where some more Interferencers are traveling this summer!

I would like to be here right now...

for now. :|

Add on Dubai to my summer vacation too!

Home to Tanzania in a week, then to Dubai with the family in June, then to Zanzibar.

Goin to Vegas in June to see LOVE and visit my brother. Plus I wanna see the joshua trees some more, I always love that part of the drive.

I think I'll make a side trip to see the trees in Joshua Tree National Park. The Joshies are endangered now, some scientist don't expect them to be around much longer.

bonocomet that sounds nice, I hope you will enjoy your vacation  And yeah, about the joshua trees... :(

Thanks JanuaryStar  My daughter is a Beatles fanatic so the LOVE trip is her 18th bday/graduation gift.

And I've loved the Joshua trees since I was a little kid, long before there was band called u2, so it does make me sad. Hopefully they'll make it!

u2lun...do you drive truck for work?...I used to do that and is why I am asking! And, are you going across the Chunnel? Is that expensive? just curious!

Well, it looks like most of my vacation time will be spent not going anywhere fabulous or interesting. I have no money to spend on travel, and timing just isn't working out for ON and Mexico.

Hawaii is still a possibility though, but that one is pretty much a given every year. My family rocks!

In mid-July I'm taking a week to just do nothing ... ahhhhh, bliss! I haven't had a vacation that long where I haven't flown somewhere, so I'm really looking forward to it.

I'll likely take a day and drive down to Mt. Rainier, and maybe go to the ocean for another day trip, but other than that, I foresee a lot of CDs and a pile of books in my future!

Then I'm flying to Wisconsin over Labor Day for a friend's wedding and to see my family.

It looks as if my plans for November in Atlanta are toast. Shit. :grumpy:
