That is absolutely inexcusable! Both are perfectly correct.

the pretentious ones are the americans who say stuff to sound more british or irish or canadian or more like whoever says a word a certian way...i've got issues with people pronouncing status STAY-tus...

Staytus? I have never heard a Cdn say that (I don't think) but a lot of Americans say "Gayla" for Gala....so I guess it must be that same group!
