What's your best album of 2004?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
As everyone's posted a few CDs, i'm going to add:
Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
Rufus Wainwright - Want Two
FF - FF

I bought it today and am giving it its maiden spin.

Like the sound of it so far.

And the packaging has the band name and title stitched in!!! (or it looks like it anyway). I love stuff like that!!!

however, my album of the year has to be 'Lifeblood' by the Manics. Well, perhaps only until I finish listening to the Nick Cave album, but till then...

Nick cave Abbatoir blues/The Lyre of orpheus
Morrissey You are the quarry
Franz ferdinand
Blanche If you can't trust the doctors
nancy Sinatra
Loretta Lynn Van lear Rose
the killers Hot Fuss
George Michael Patience ( no joke!!)

Lots of good albums came out this year..
Still haven't heard a single note of HTDAAB (except vertigo off course)

My nominees so far:

My Chemical Romance - Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Interpol - Antics

and I'm still waiting to hear
Manic Street Preachers - Lifeblood
U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb

In no particular order:

- U2 - How to dismantle an atomic bomb
- Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
- The Killers - Hot Fuss
- Morrissey - You are the quarry
- Social Distortion - Sex, Love and rock 'n' roll
- Keane - Hopes and fears (was that this year?)

Elliott Smith--From A Basement On the Hill
U2 - HTDAAB

I haven't really bought any albums this year
:slant:

American Idiot, by far. I'm not even sure if HTDAAB will top it. It's just a totaly revival of Green Day's music and such a powerful statement on America today. Even if the politics turn someone off, the songs themselves are excellent, in tune, sound and everything.

From A Basement On the Hill by Elliott Smith is also really good.

I liked French Kicks- 'Trial of the Century' (i think it came out this year) a lot. 'Smile' was great of course. I expect U2's 'Atomic Bomb' to be unmatched album of the year though.

And I predict the best album of next year to be Trail of Dead's 'World's Apart'- I saw them play new stuff live in Philadelphia with two drummers and it was amazing.

Haven't listened to U2 and Nick Cave albums yet. Off the top of my head:

Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her
Lisa Gerrard & Patrick Cassidy - Immortal Memory
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free

Also
Amy Winehouse - Frank (a 2003 release that I only caught up with this year)

Some good lists here :)

Mine's a mess, albums moving up and down all the time.

01. The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free
02. Modest Mouse - Good News For People Who Love Bad News
03. Elliott Smith - From A Basement On The Hill
04. Brian Wilson - SMiLE
05. Beastie Boys - To The 5 Boroughs
06. TV On The Radio - Desparate Youths, Blood Thirsty Babes
07. !!! - Louden Up Now
08. Polyphonic Spree - Together We're Heavy
09. Snow Patrol - Final Straw
10. U2 - How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

The Streets are definatly #1, places 2-4 are always changing (though I think Modest Mouse is settling into #2), and the other 6 spots are always changing.

Keane offered no lastability, it's a good album, but I haven't listened to it for about 6 months. Wilco's album is patchy but still good, Franz Ferdinand also offered no lastibility for me, Prodigy's was alright but patchy, Interpol was good and may make the end of year list, and The Music's album was not bad either.
