Well, I wouldn't be so harsh folks. She was a straight ahead folk/rock singer for a couple albums. She then decides to do something new, break new ground for herself, maybe put a little dance/pop into the mix. Also writing some lyrics that poke fun at commercialism and pop culture.

Boy - sound familiar??? this is the last place that she should be criticised. I'm not saying she's doing anything as cool and thought-provoking as POP, but hey - she never was as cool or thought-provoking as U2. This is like a dumbed down version of U2's POP phase.

That being said - the fact that "Intuition" is about commercialism and selling out and then it winds up in a women's Schick razor commercial makes me think that Jewel missed her own point.

Well I like her new song so bite me.

RAWRRRR.

I personally think she's doing it for a laugh, not to sell out, which I think is great. Because there's nothing more annoying than when artists take themselves waaaay too seriously *cough*CREED*cough*. I think one day she thought to herself, woudn't it be funny if I mad a dance-pop album? But I can't claim to know what's really on her mind, I just think what I want to be true. And at least her new songs (well the one I've heard) have better messages than 'i'm a slave 4 u' and 'hit me baby one more time'

Yeah, but she always made sure we saw how cute she was in her little low-cut folkie peasant shirts. And those little coy looks at the camera as she warbled. A poet-tart.

The song actually grew on me with time, but to continue the POP conparisons Jewel looks IMO just as awkward and out of place in "Intuition" video as U2 did in "Discotheque". But what do I know, maybe that was her plan, too.

I've read an interview with her recently where I got the impression that she still takes herself incredibly seriously even as she looks like she's just having some fun with dance-pop.

i recall hearing that she did an interview on some morning show and then on mtv the same day and basically totally contradicted herself. whatever, i'm not going to spend any time trying to discover the truth.. that's for fox mulder and his friends

I love sweet tarts...

Jewel is riding the coattails of the dance-pop phenomenon. Lending her critically acclaimed name only enhances and legitimizes the genre...

Well, I think that POP had some pretty heavy themes in the lyrics, and the music was also kickin ass, but more so than that, is that it ain't cool to pick up on the irony thing anymore.
If I'm not mistaken, Brian Adams did the same thing after Zooropa came out, with disasterous results. So did a few other people, and no one did it with any kind of clarity....somehow, u2 did it great.
Personally I find jewel's "I'm being ironic" thing really annoying.

You know, the female body, in my opinion, is so beutiful compared to the male body.
Jewel.....well, I was gonna go into an analysis of why I think she's attractive,.....but it's not necessary.

Let's just say that whatever style of music jewel puts out and I think is crappy...I prefer her looks to cameron diaz or someone that weighs 57 pounds anyday.

IMO, her new image not only signals "sell out" but ironically she seems to sell out by pimpin herself out...

okay, that sounded a lot worse outloud... i didn't really mean to be that mean if you know what i mean

Please do not draw between comparisons U2 and Jewel. U2 will always be remembered as rock icons and Jewel will fade away and be very forgotten.
