Spoon - Got Nuffin EP

Hmm, not sure how I feel about this...I've never gotten into Spoon and haven't really tried to all that much, but a couple songs on here are good. "Tweakers" is just weird. "Stroke Their Brains" is cool, but has 3 minutes of dead air at the end of it (pet peeve of mine, especially when it's not the last track on the album/EP).

And next up is:
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Live at PDX

Yeah, I wasn't very fond of it the first times I've heard, but it sounded really good today. (Still no better than Empire to me though.)

This Will Destroy You - Young Mountain
White Rabbits - It's Frightening
Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
The Wrens - The Meadowlands
Mos Def - The Ecstatic
Atmosphere - God Loves Ugly

A few tracks aside ("Heart It Races," "Same Old Innocence," and the majestic "Underwater"), this has to be one of the decade's most disappointing records. In Case We Die still sounds utterly fresh, vital, precise, and absurdly ambitious, over four years later. I still can't believe that they followed it with something so tepid. Very sad.

I initially wasn't a big fan of it either, but in retrospect it has a surprisingly decent amount of songs on it I enjoy. It still doesn't really work well as an album, and I agree that both of the prior albums are better, but at least it gave us 3 great music videos. In Case We Die is one of my favorites of the decade as well. Hopefully the new album will shape up better than Places Like This. If 'That Beep' is a good example, it could end up fantastic.

VNV Nation - 'Of Faith, Power and Glory'
