I am trying to compile my list of the best of 04, and I don't have as much searching time as i did in previous years, so if you all could throw some suggestions my way of new stuff to check out I would be most indebted. Some of mine so far are:

Patty Griffin - Florida
Keane - Somewhere Only We Know
Morrissey - English/Irish
Modest Mouse - Float On
Old Crow Medicine Show - Wagon Wheel
Muse - Time is Running Out

Thanks guys. Sorry I've been away for so long. Life can throw you some major curveballs sometimes.

I'd been thinking about this the last few days also. I'll name my fav. albums so far from this year:

Beastie Boys - 'To The 5 Boroughs'
The Beta Band - 'Heroes To Zeroes'
Muse - 'Absolution'
Franz Ferdinanad - "
Morrissey - 'You are the Quarry'
Modest Mouse - 'Good News For People Who Love Bad News'

Will be added to my list on June 29: The Cure - "

Unrelated:

Favorite album that I got in '04 that didnt come out in '04 - Death Cab For Cutie - 'Transatlanticism'
Band I purchased their entire catalog of in '04: Placebo

 to all of them

-bad religion - the empire strikes first
-modest mouse - good news for people who love bad news
-morrissey - you are the quarry
-tiger army - III: ghost tigers rise (officially out june 29th)
-the vandals--hollywood potato chip (also comes out june 29th)
-mission of burma - onoffon
-madball - NYHC E.P.
-descendents - 'merican E.P.
-descendents - cool to be you

biggest disappointments so far have been: u.s. roughnecks - twenty bucks and two black eyes. madcap - under suspicion.

will see on july 13th where the lars frederiksen & the bastards album fits into this...i'm skeptical.

if the bruisers - cruisin' for a bruisin' re-release ends up being released this year (it was supposed to be out last november, so i've got no idea), it will most likely top my list.

most of my music purchases this year have been mighty mighty bosstones, bruce springsteen, and other things i should have bought already.

Uh Huh Her, PJ Harvey
One Soul Now, Cowboy Junkies
To the 5 Boroughs, Beastie Boys

Still thinking about:

A Ghost Is Born, Wilco

my top recommendations so far this year are, in no particular order:

Franz Ferdinand ? Franz Ferdinand
John Vanderslice ? Cellar Door
Modest Mouse ? Good News for People who Like Bad News
Junior Boys ? Last Exit
Blockhead ? Music By Cavelight
The Dresden Dolls ? The Dresden Dolls
Elbow ? Cast of Thousands
Espers - Espers

Just one great release for me so far.

Isidore (self titled)

Franz Ferdinand (self-titled)
PJ Harvey - Uh Huh Her
Los Lobos - The Ride
Prince - Musicology

I haven't made up my mind on The Killers, or the new releases by Morrisey and Wilco.
