a question... kind of weird.. sorry.

im wondering what this guy is saying here... in this article:

****He doesn't, he just thinks for a moment and starts up with
his laconic, habitually slurred speech and says very, very
slowly: "Well, some are a bit, but it's disguised. I could
never, never do it straight, it's like baring your arse in
public - it's embarrassing."
In the band's early days - in what I took to be 50 per cent
honesty and 50 per cent not wanting to talk about the obvious
(hello, Mr Curtis) - the band always stressed that all they
were interested in was the music. But John's married now,
with a kid. Can things like this alter your perspectives,
change your priorities?
"Up to now the music's been the most important thing in my
life, but I'm going through a big change in the way I think.
That's another reason why I don't really want to do
interviews. I won't have anything to say until I've changed."
What are you changing to?
"Won't know 'til I get there."
From?
"Just someone who's totally dedicated to one thing - music."
I see. You know you're just a bit idiosyncratic?
"Always have been, I've always felt a bit out of place."
All the time?
"Well, whenever I try to do something that everyone else
does."
Like what?
"Like watching telly. I can't just sit there without
thinking, why do people do this, what do they get out of it."
You know, Dallas, Dynasty, that sort of thing. *****

what's he mean by this part?:

is he saying the music is more important than his family?? or am i reading this wrong??

He is saying that music was the most important thing until recently. He is in some sort of middle stage where music is NOT the most important thing, something else is because he says he is going through a change in the way he thinks. BUT he does not know what the most imortant thing is yet. That's how I interpreted it.

I'm assuming (gut feeling) the Mr. Curtis is a reference to Ian Curtis, but none of the guys from Joy Division or New Order were named John, so I'm a bit confused and might be wrong

Wow, I must be on crack...I got a totally different sense of who it was!! The reference to watching to telly gave me it was someone from the UK, and the mention of Dallas & Dynasty made me think of the 80's...That made me think of Ian Curtis...my mind is messed I guess!

yeah, i wasnt sure what to make of it. happens to be one of my favorite singers, and i was reading up on some of the older interviews from the 80s and saw that, and thought.. WTF?
because.. now, he seems pretty family oriented... and the band really doesnt even tour... never did that much anyway except for one 'tour'.

i was kinda thinking maybe he meant something totally different, actually. not that his family was not important (besides, that'd be a really ODD and fucked up thing to say in a public interview or in general to admit or think).. but maybe he was saying he felt, guiltily that he'd been spending more time on the music than his family and hes trying to change?

who the heck knows. lol.

and also, if it does make any difference, (lol), that article was from 1986... he had already been married for about 4 years and they had just had a baby.. that year.

now, he's got about 3 kids and seems very close and dedicated. and though he and his wife (from back in the 80s) split up, he's been with the same woman he's with currently for about 14 years almost and they have a son and daughter together.

like i said.. nothing makes sense anywhere anymore. LOL.
