No, they started shunning at Kid A.

They were all over MTV with OKC... it just wasn't as well received.

Jeremy should have been like number 3 or something.
Smells like teen spirit is good and all...but not number 1 in my book.

This list is an utter mockery of what was a truly great decade for music.

Where is Seal's 'Kiss From A Rose', one of the biggest hits of the decade not to mention of the most brilliant pop songs of the decade?

Not a single Smashing Pumpkins song? Today? Tonight, Tonight? Disarm? Bullet With Butterfly Wings?

No Tori Amos? Crucify? Spark? Precious Things? God?

Creep is the only RH entry? With all there was to pick from on Bends and OKC?

Where's Green Day's 'Basket Case'? Before American Idiot, it was still one of their best known songs.

Where's Clapton's 'Tears In Heaven'?

Where's NIN? Hurt?

Where's Madonna? Ray Of Light? Frozen?

Where's GnR? November Rain anyone? It's only their stairway.

Where's Sting? Desert Rose and Brand New Day are brilliant.

The Boss? Streets Of Philadelphia if nothing else?

No Doubt? Don't Speak is a brilliant pop song.

Foo Fighers?! Everlong, Learn To Fly?

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers? Learning To Fly?

MJ? Scream? Black Or White? Remember The Time?

And You Ought To Know is the best they can do for Alanis? Hand In My Pocket? Ironic? Head Over Heels? Thank U? Uninvited?

I will refrain from making any U2-related criticisms, seeing as I am trying to keep an objective non U2-obsessed point of view.

But really, to leave all of the above off while still including abject atrocities like Ice Ice Baby or Tearin' Up My Heart or No Diggity or This Is How We Do It or The Rain(Supa Dupa Fly) or Rico Suave(why not just include Right Said Fred too, it would make just as much sense) or I Wanna Sex You Up, among many others, is a fucking crime to all of the 12 year olds of today who might be looking to a list like this to get an introduction to what popular music was all about in the 90s. To tell them that Ice Ice Baby is the 29th best song of the decade(won't even go into the whole stolen riff thing at this point) without so much as mentioning Kiss From A Rose or November Rain or Today or Streets Of Philadelphia or Everlong or Black Or White is a crime.

Perhaps I am getting too worked up, but...this list is just embarassing.

You raised some valid points there for sure. But I don't think any artist/band had more than one song on the list. But yes, definitely some omissions and many songs on the list I never even heard of. Best songs - maybe not, but definitely songs that were big over the course of the 90s (re: Ice Ice Baby). And how could they NOT pick 'You Ought To Know' by Alanis Morissette - that was HUGE! And Madonna & Green Day were on the list, just not with songs your mentioned. Definitely not a definitive list, but it gets us talking, right? am I RITE?

Yes, I know she was in the top 20. I meant in reference to namkcur's questioning the Alanis song choice, not that she was omitted from the list.

on the 80s countdown they had like two songs from a band on the countdown

and as for all the other amazing songs that didnt make it, its the people who voted for its fault.

The '90s list got their No. 1 and No. 2 songs exactly right. It was much, much better than the '80s list where Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi was No. 1 and U2's With or Without You didn't even make the Top 10, IIRC.

What I don't understand is how songs by Tori Amos, Nine Inch Nails, Dave Matthews Band (I don't like them, but they were a huge part of the '90s) No Doubt, Smashing Pumpkins, Toni Braxton or lots of other people were overlooked in favor of one hit wonders. I don't mind a few of those being on the list - who doesn't love EMFs "Unbelievable"? - but why have that song "Bitch" on there by whats-her-name who was so obviously trying to cash in on the success of Alanis Morissette?

I admit getting sucked into that 90's thing every night it was on

If I had VH1 Classics I'd be a happy camper but alas, I do not.

Sometimes the only thing that keeps me from unsubscribing from my extended digital cable package and just going with regular cable, which would cost me a lot less money per month, is VH1 Classic.
