Now it is time to correct a gross Superthread injustice. The Superthread has not been to a location in the continental Americas south of the US border, just the Dominican Republic and Fernando de Noronha off the coast. So to fix this, now we are going as far south as you can possibly get from the US border and hitting Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world! Actually, it truly is not in the continental Americas either, as it is on the island of Tierra del Fuego, but come on, nobody would think of Manhattan as some place divorced from the continental Americas, so let's not get pedantic about this either.

Ushuaia was once a South American answer to Australia, with its economy centred around a penal colony. Unlike Australia, things have now considerably changed. The old railway from Ushuaia to the prison is now a tourist attraction, the End of the World Train. This is undoubtedly the most significant detail about the town. For sure. Yep.

I was hoping you would spot that.

It is quite meanspirited isn't it? But I plan on my list just being weird

I should put the Elvis Vertigo cover on it

This list is going to be nuts! Though I think I was personally most amused - and perhaps even more repulsed - by the all-Morrissey idea you've had.

Also, I'm listening to Your Protector, and a death metal cover of this would be cool. I am totally not singing along to it in death growls. :shifty:

I have so many random lists in my head; I think I'm gonna make them all and see which one I like best

If you have any crazy covers tell me about them

I nearly put Morrissey's Speedway onto my DI list. However, the Great Mystery told me there was going to be enough pain for Axver as it was, and so I reluctantly took it away.

 I've actually a number of ideas for DI lists floating about too, though most aren't piss-takes.

Like I said, I tend to avoid the joke covers, but if I remember any good ones, I'll be sure to let you know. The crazy ones in metal most seem to happen in genres I don't follow anyway, e.g. thrash and power metal.

I'm thinking of throwing on some punk smiths covers too

From the last thread:

That is so rad. More incentive for you to listen to my DI, since it has a great song of theirs that isn't from that album.

I love your reviews, by the way. I should write more on RYM. Or at least rewrite some of them.

Ah, cool. Will definitely do it tomorrow! I just hope my running diary is half as entertaining as your ones.

Thanks. I just posted my review of Fleet Foxes, complete with vaguely anti-American rant. And I didn't know you're on RYM. What's your screen name there?

Ooh! Could you send the EP to me, pretty please? Remember about me getting that wine for you one day!

My dad and brother were stopped at the airport for a bomb check once or twice just because they have "darker" features as far as white people go. :crack: So, be thankful for your albinistic appearance, in that case.

Sure, I'll upload it while I sleep. Shouldn't be a hassle.

God. :crack: I've been stopped a couple of times for those random searches chosen by ticket number or whatnot, and the security guys have obviously not taken it terribly seriously. I mean, me?! You know the worst I'm going to do is accidentally drop a 1,000 page book on somebody and give them a concussion.

I always had you pinned as somebody who'd find Morrissey insufferable.

Now here's some Google ads I can appreciate:

Yes, please, take me to Antarctica. Preferably over December, January, and February.

Checking out your Fleet Foxes review now, Ax. The comparisons to Pet Sounds people are making are stupid. Because the Fleet Foxes are the first band in a while to remind us that the human vocals piss on any musical instrument? They could work on their melodies, but it's a damn good start in the popular vocal revival.

And good review, Ax. I think my RYM screenname is Firepowa8. Some reviews need to be worked over. For example, I would no longer say that Loveless was better than world peace. That was a phase I had in which I'd listen to it while I was at life drawing class, just because it seemed to fit that situation. And AB would no longer get four stars.

Afraid not, I actually grew up listening to The Smiths. I mean, not my favourite stuff in the world, but unlike the population of America, I don't want to murder him.

Huh. I definitely would've expected you to find him even worse than Bono. I've never listened to his solo music, but what I've heard of The Smiths has been pretty unremarkable. But then it seems they were going for being unremarkable.

I don't think you can really compare Morrissey and Bono. I think they're annoying for different reasons.

Well, what Smiths have you heard? Morrissey's solo work is different. Sorta.

Pet Sounds comparisons? God. I'm not seeing that either. Speaking of the Beach Boys, what really fucking irritates the shit out of me is how any band who emphasises vocal harmonies gets compared either to the Beach Boys if the reviewer likes them or the Backstreet Boys if the reviewer doesn't like them. I mean, Pure Reason Revolution will often have three singers in a song, and I once saw a review calling them the Backstreet Boys of prog just for doing that. OH YEAH LIKE NOBODY'S EVER THOUGHT TO HAVE MULTIPLE SINGERS BEFORE.

Thanks. Wow, you gave Achtung four stars? And so recently too? Here I am, thinking some of my 2003 posts about songs I now hate are still too recent for comfort.

Ah, right :hmm: So wait, you guys didn't finish that one all day?????? Daaaaaaaaaaaamn...

We finished it in under 24 hours, which is still fairly normal.

It doesn't help that certain prolific posters have abandoned the Superthread.

The only full album I've heard is The Queen Is Dead. I can't say it left any sort of lasting impression on me.

Oh yeah, exactly! The Beach Boys blatantly copied the Four Freshmen, anyway. And the Four Freshmen weren't the most original bunch in the world, either. Group vocals are a basic thing. Do we compare bands with guitarists simply because of that fact? Fleet Foxes may take some Beach Boys ideas (they're certainly fans), but they're not ripping them off.

You must remember that it's only really been this year that I've returned to a U2 fandom. I had a hiatus, and even though I returned to the forum last year I still wasn't doing much in the way of listening to them regularly. So the AB review is just as well a leftover from '05 or earlier, my recollection of the album. Now I'd give it two and a half stars tops.

You must also realise that my reviews are basically jokes anyway.
