well since the corporatisation of music began since the mid 90s this is a dying genre

Queen was a great innovator of the sporting anthem:

We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions are two songs which will be sung from now til the end of eternity everytime there is a significant global sporting event

Other great anthems which rings to mind is David Bowie's Heroes

a more recent one is William Orbit's Adagio for Strings

others

Apollo Four Forty - Stop The Rock
Robbie Williams - Its Only Us
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name is used here for Cricket matches here in Australia
ACDC - All Night Long is a popular one downunder here in Australia

what are other songs that are awe inspiring enough to use for sporting events where the whole crowd can be captivated in joy and all that? :p

I heard The Hindu Times by Oasis at White Hart Lane when Spurs drew with Arsenal last season. There's of course the classic 'You'll Never Walk Alone' - seeing Celtic and Liverpool supporters sing that together during the UEFA Cup ties was really special, as were the Celtic fans singing the Beatles "All You Need Is Love" with Blackburn Rovers fans prior to another UEFA Cup tie at Ewood Park.
