Hey guys....... ok... I know someone posted a thread here not too long ago about music recomendations, but I can't find it, so forgive me for starting my own. I am making a mixed CD (as I always seem to be doing) and I need to discover some new music. I hate the crap that's on the radio these days.
I have heard a lot of you guys talking about the Muse, the Doves and Massive Attack, so I am checking these bands out. But I need more! To give you alittle background, I love music by Coldplay, Travis, David Gray, Starsailor, Jeff Buckley, U2, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and many others but that should help. I also am really getting into electronica type music with the likes of Lamb, Esthero, Moby etc...

*Update: not liking the Muse so much. :eyebrow:

There is a new band from Belgium called Millionaire. The cd Outside the simian flock is great.

I've already said it repeatedly:
please check out Elliott Smith.
His music his well structured, his voice his soft around the edges...very nice.

His music is sometimes rocking, sometimes spunky sometime mortally sad.

Waltz#2 is the song that hooked me. DOn't let the happy waltz beat fool you ;)

Must haves:

-Miss Misery
-Sweet Adeline
-Junk Bond Trader
-Everything means Nothing to Me(beautiful build up and ending here!)

god i love muse (unless u actually meant the muse....im pretty sure u meant muse tho) and all those other peeps u mentoined! :D

Today my favourite songs are:

Jack Off Jill- Love Song (The Cure cover)

Im liking Bad Religion too: Infected
Punk Rock Song

Van the Mans- These are the Days

The Jam- Town called Malice <---great great tune

i wanna see how great he is now...........

Hehee for some reason everyone thinks I'm smitten with him..... ;)

The Hives - very garage punk, I would especially recommend the songs

Hate to Say I Told You So
Die, All Right!
Main Offender
Knock Knock

i would NOT recommend muse, the strokes, the white stripes, or the hives.

i would recommend...

more radiohead (come on angel, you gotta like em more!!), sigur ros, beethoven, actually any classical music - its such a relief to hear good music instead of boring "guitar rock". id also recommend mogwai, the doves, and creed.

ofcourse, creed being said as the biggest joke ever made.

yesterday in a music store, i asked one of the workers if i could make a request:

"can i make a request?"

"what kind of request?"

"can you please remove all of creeds cds immediately?"

"trust me, weve all tried."

brilliant.

I agree!!
get Mogwai "rock action", that shit will take you to another level of existance! much better than the new 70's rock trend a la hives, strokes bla bla.
Its all the same boring shit with bad singing and primitive song structure.

Mogwai, portishead, radiohead, Elliott Smith...this is where its at

White Stripes is currently what I'm obsessing over. :D We're Gonna Be Friends, Aluminum, and Fell in Love With a Girl are my favourite songs by them.

Oi, I wish I had money so I could buy some albums :( Or at least a decent computer so I could download mp3s!

Thanks to Basstrap and the other person who recommended Rock Action to me. I'm still getting into the album but I absolutely adore 2 Rights Make 1 Wrong.

Angel, here are my best recommendations:

Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Vol. II
Autechre - Tri Repetae
Bjork - Vespertine
Doves - Lost Souls
Godspeed You Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Modest Mouse - The Moon & Antarctica, Lonesome Crowded West
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Tool - Aenima, Lateralus

If you or anyone else is interested you can get the mp3s from my ftp.

We seem to like a lot of the same music, so I would recommend:

Ed Harcourt
Neil Halstead
Elbow (Guy Garvey... )
Mojave 3
Slowdive
I Am Kloot
Melaton
Faultline
Alfie
Lorien
Idlewild
Electric Soft Parade

Okay, stopping myself now....

:silent:

I second megan's list, mogwai, turin breaks...

Also, I like:

South
Nick Drake
Damien Rice
Mull Historical Society
Badly Drawn Boy
Ummm...mental block...that's all I can think of now :)

I know I sound like a broken record but...I can't say enough about Elbow and Doves. I just picked up both Doves discs this weekend after seeing them live last week and they are phenomenal.

I'll second sigur ros and Radiohead too. :D

Doves

Well, I just went out and got the Doves the last broadcast and I give it   It is copyright 2002, so that qualifies for new as far as I'm concerned. :p It has a bonus CD, but i haven't listened to it yet. So, since I like them and you know i like U2...who else should i check out?

Thanks!
:lemon: M

way to go Meringue!!! I just bought it last weekend (along with their first album Lost Souls) and I looooove both of them! We shall have to play them a bit while we sip beer on the patio this summer. :D

I think I like Elbow better than Doves (though Doves sound great).... and I am starting to really like Muse too! :D

*Loves discovering new music.
