Top 20 albums of the decade so far?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I'm honestly quite surprised by the lack of Explosions In The Sky mentions. The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place is sweet.

Paul McCartney - Chaos And Creation In The Backyard

One of his best. It's that and Flaming Pie as easily the best he's done since 1980 although Tug Of War can fairly receive some nods. His string of solo albums in the 70's is highly underrated and was only eclipsed by Lennon until he started putting out plenty of mediocre releases and Harrison's career ended up stronger on the whole albeit with fewer highlights.

Did Neko Case get any love from anyone but me, outside of any New Pornographers albums she was part of? I love her voice.

Blacklisted probably would edge its way into a Top 100 from me with the one-album-per-artist rule. One of the best of its year.

EITS are on the outskirts of my list....they would likely be in if I went another 5-10 albums. I will admit, though, that I usually...oh, fuck.....

Add Souvenirs d’un autre monde by Alcest to my list!!!!!!

Oh yes, definitely. I loved Flaming Pie as well. It was a very heartfelt record that contained a shocking lack of filler. McCartney (the album) is a personal favorite of mine, with Every Night being one of my 5 favorite songs by him. Ram is a masterpiece, point blank, and Band On The Run is great fun, though his Wings work is spotty.

While we're on the subject of the New Pornographers, I've got to say that Destroyer's Rubies was pretty damn great. I need to look into more Bejar solo projects.

I'm really pissed about forgetting to include Souvenirs d’un autre monde. If you did not mention EITS, it would not have dawned on me. 2007 was a great year.

Yes I realize that it's still only 2008 but I'm curious to know what B&C's 20 favorite albums are for the period 2000 to the present.

gosh, I wish I listened to 150 albums a year. that's the only way I'd possibly be qualified to post my 20 FAVORITE albums of the decade.

and certainly nothing popular could ever be good, so fuck all those people posting albums with singles played on the radio. No true artist would ever dare have their music on the radio. That's why we're all U2 fans, right?

The only truly worthy music of this decade is so good that none of you pathetic lumpens have even heard it. It can only be found on this secret underground website that nobody knows about. I leave you but this miniscule clue: it rhymes with Bitchpork.

and can I just say: Dalton, I like your style.

You'll always be Space Moon's leading citizen.

honestly that's probably my least favourite Explosions album. It's good, of course, but it doesn't really stick with me, it's just kinda background music. the other albums are much more engaging for me. All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone is a masterpiece, and I'm quite a big fan of Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever. Greet Death is tied with Catastrophe and the Cure for my favourite Explosions song...can't you just imagine Greet Death at the end of an amazing movie or something... I also love How Strange, Innocence

can't wait to see them at Lolla

Lolla

I cannot believe that I'll be at Lolla, and there will be an explosion that will freak people out....but I'll just calmly say to those around me "Oh, do not worry, that's just Atomic Bono combusting. Rage is on stage, you see. She'll be reincarnated, hopefully".

UNNGHHHH YEA CMON

CONVERT TO ISLAM

It's too bad the only album Rage has put out this decade is Renegades, which sucked. The more UNNGHHHH YEA CMONs in this thread, the better.

I need to get that album. I have the cover of Maggie's Farm, which is fuckin killer, and Renegades of Funk is cool. However I'm guessing the rest isn't up to par? A whole covers album wasn't really necessary imo...

also they def should have put Fuck Tha Police on there.

I like Renegades of Funk, though.

I really am excited to see them Live. I'm not a huge fan, but, I am ready to rock the fuck out. Lolla should be good. Everyone should come to Chicago for the three days.

Oh man, the Street Fighting Man cover is hilarious. Definitely not a great outing from them.

If you want to count it, the 2003 live album was pretty great.

You can't go wrong with Rage...unless it gets overly political...and then you're in a conundrum, because it's all overly political...but it rocks the fuck out...and isn't that what it's all about...:hmm:...even Renegades.

Those who have not got Interpol's Turn On The Bright Lights in their top 20, do yerself a favour and go and have a listen and I can assure you that your list will change within a week......yer mind shall be blown.

I tried to get into Interpol. I really liked the first song of theirs I found on YouTube (Slow Hands), sadly by song number three I was already bored with them. I think most of the boredom had to do with their singer - vocals are often a make-or-break thing for me and his just don't sustain my interest; too bland and robotic.

Not only that, but how dare people go on about the same old stale English-speaking scene when there's some true cutting-edge music happening in Zimbabwe,

Sarcasm aside, no matter how much new music a person, or entire staff of Pitchfork, listens to in a year, they still can only possibly access a tiny little sliver of all new music that's out there, every year. So all this chest-puffing about listening to 150 records a year as opposed to 15 is IMO pretty silly.

I listed what I really like and Pitchfork helped me fine some of it.

I still don't quite get how you need Pitchfork to find the stuff you really like. I mean, if you really like something, you can remember that, right?

Anyway, thanks for the edited list.

Here are some albums from 2000 and on that I love. This might or might reach 20, in no real order:

Boxer - The National
Some Cities - Doves
Leaders of the Free World - Elbow
The Seldom Seen Kid - Elbow
The Stage Names - Okkervil River
Sea Change - Beck
Sound of Silver - LCD Soundsystem
Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea - PJ Harvey
Cease to Begin - Band of Horses
Raising Sand - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss
A Weekend in the City - Bloc Party
Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
Work - Junetile
Mute Math - Mute Math
Eisley - Combinations
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - Wilco
Empire - Kasabian
Black Holes & Revelations - Muse
In Rainbows - Radiohead
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - U2
Potrishead - Third (Cannot stop listening to it)
Z - My Morning Jacket
Wincing the Night Away - The Shins
Wolfmother - Wolfmother
Fox Confessor Brings the Flood - Neko Case
In Absentia - Porcupine Tree
Trashcan Sinatras - Weightlifting
By The Way - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Stars - In Our Bedroom After the War

Choose the half which you think are the best and you can play along. :)
(that list is about 35 titles, so it needs some editing)

Yeah, the list doesn't seem particularly indietastic to me. I've come across the majority of those without even doing much reading.

Agreed. That's probably because a lot of these ended up being name dropped everywhere or earned a ton of press.

So with that list you're just as bad as you claim others are. You listed your top 20 albums and they feature some major artists. So solely judging from your list and based on your criteria, you don't listen to a lot of modern music.
Since you claim you do, it seems that a lot of the excellent albums you list still get picked up by a wider audience (I wouldn't call it the mainstream, because even though we're all fans of one of the biggest rock bands in this world, the people in BandC usually have a wider interest and are more prone to checking out some indie stuff). And that the albums that don't make your top 20, while probably very good, are not good enough for a top 20 of the decade's best. Maybe others have heard those indie albums too and also decided they don't merit inclusion in that list. And then you're back again at a list from which you can deduct no more than that those are the top albums for that person.

This video is long overdue.

Indie Clerk Assholes

:lmao: A+

I'll bite and attempt at Top 20 in your fashion.

2000

U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind (probably my #1 of the decade, my second favorite album from my second favorite band)

How anybody can list so many albums that are generally unheard of to the common populace and still include the most watered down album at #1 with a ballad as self helpish and adult contemporary as Stuck In A Moment is beyond me. It almost seems like a crime to me like how you feel about Killers or Bruce inclusions. Not that I don't like ATYCLB but I'm amazed how U2 fans even listen to so much indie music... this is U2 we're talking about!
