Yes I realize that it's still only 2008 but I'm curious to know what B&C's 20 favorite albums are for the period 2000 to the present. I'll post my list later.

I will post a more thorough list later, but I can tell you this (and we discussed this earlier I believe)....

Without ANY shred of doubt, these are two most influential albums of that time period...

2000 - Kid A - Radiohead
2001 - Is This It - The Strokes

Two most influential in terms of creating a literal shift in the music scene. The landscapes of the two "genres" that those bands work within will never be the same because of those two albums.

Is This It was THE reason for the upshot of "young men in garage with guitars" music that we've seen this century so far.

And Kid A was just a complete mindfuck.

Yeah Kid A is gonna be very close to the top of my list... that is, if In Rainbows doesn't wrestle the top spot from it! Damn, those guys are good! And yeah, I agree that Is This It pretty much seemed to set the tone for the decade, spawning all your Hives, Vines, Franz, Killers etc.

Uhh...I dunno. Not sure if I can come up with 20. Kid A will make my list too, whenever I can finish it. :uhoh:

Really? There have been so many albums we have discussed in this forum over the years, man! Surely we can come up with 20 good ones!

Btw, is it just me or do rateyourmusic's decade lists suck balls? I can't even relate to their 90s list and I'm a 90s fan. Their 80s list is weird too.

I'm going to use RYM's lists as a reference point. :reject: But, then again, my tastes are a lot more similar to most of the users there, so I think they're pretty good.

Except for the death metal, of course. There's way too much of that.

I could come up with a top 20 but I think only ten albums deserve to be mentioned as the best of the decade.

The top tier (all-time classics.)
1. A Rush Of Blood To The Head by Coldplay
2. Aerial by Kate Bush
3. The Dresden Dolls by The Dresden Dolls
4. Liars by Todd Rundgren
5. The Dark Third by Pure Reason Revolution

Second tier (just short of being classics.)
6. Viva La Vida by Coldplay
7. American Doll Posse by Tori Amos
8. Marry Me by St. Vincent
9. Bloodflowers by The Cure
10. Fear Of A Blank Planet by Porcupine Tree

You can see my lists on RYM. Search for Screwtape2. :)

Here's my list and it's in somewhat decent order but the further you go down the list, the more unsure I am of the position of each album. So I'm just gonna leave out the numbers for the ranks! Oh.. and I have a feeling my list is gonna be ridiculously unpopular here.

 No, the Killers album is there because it's inconsistent, but its best songs are awesome, and the Green Day album has sort of lost its appeal for me after so many plays. It's still good though, very accomplished, and easily the best thing Green Day has ever done.

I fucking love Hot Fuss... I still do! I prefer that whole dance club rock vibe to their next one Sam's Town. And Brandon's way of singing on HF suits him so much better, IMO than his over-ambitious borderline yelling on ST. Anyway, as for Green Day I agree wholeheartedly that American Idiot is their best album yet. But it's been so long since it came out, geez! Wonder what's cooking in their camp!

I can't stand Sam's Town...that was a real disappointment for me. :( Flowers' voice is just...gone. I have no idea what happened. Must have sold the ol' auto tune on ebay to stock up on fake mustaches.

Green Day is now working on a side project as this band called Foxboro Hot Tubs. Their album was released on May 20.

Holy shit! Why wasn't I told about this??? lol. So they're doing a side project under a completely different name? Interesting. :hmm: This seems to have completely slipped under the hype radar. Either that or I've been living under a rock.
