It's hilarious that what 20 years ago was classed as 'heavy metal' is now 'classic rock'. The 'heavy metal' of the 70s is nothing compared to the 'heavy metal' of today.

I would have thought all that "intelligent music" you listen might one day influence you to make an intelligent post. I am still waiting.

Can't we all just get along? GnR is hard rock. Everyone in GnR would tell you that.
If you want to talk about hair metal, go check out Poison.

Whether something is Hair metal or Heavy metal is nothing but historical and current perspective. Prior to 1991, Hair metal was Heavy Metal, so there. And thus the top ten heavy/hair metal albums of all time:

1. Hysteria
2. Appetite For Destruction
3. Skid Row (Self titled)
4. Metallica (Self titled)
5. Dr. Feelgood
6. Long Cold Winter
7. Open Up And Say.... Ah!
8. GNR Lies
9. Five Man Acoustical Jam
10. 5150

Honorable mentions:

Buckcherry (self titled)
1984
Theater Of Pain

Not quite. They may have looked like those hair metal bands esp. during Appetite but GNR killed bands like Poison, Ratt, Dokken etc. IMO. Cos Axl Rose didn't just sing about girls, more like drugs, decadence, sex, excess and later somewhat matured out with the ambitious Use Your Illusion.

As for heavy metal, please don't include hair metal in it. Please!!!

I can't come up with 10... most of my favorites are hair metal!

Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Metallica - Metallica
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Scorpions - Love at First Sting

I'm thinking something from Ozzy as well...

Play Rock You. First opening I ever saw in a concert by myself when I was 16. Heavy Metal Love was popular in Canada at the time too.

W.A.S.P - I Wanna Be Somebody and Love Machine were two of their big singles off Winged Assassins. They are still playing in after 20 plus years. I did not know that.

Quiet Riot - Metal Health, my first music purchase ever, I still have the cassette

Loved Maiden, Scorpions and Ozzy of course, along with Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper.
