why are stock market quotes always delayed 15-20 minutes?
this must be done purposefully because, well, nothing is delayed 15-20 seconds these days, but it is done this way every where.

most likely so that you can't trade on the information. Or something to that effect.

They're are certain programs where you can see the quotes not delayed - live - but I think they a subscription services - often provided by a broker.
