This word-"SEXY". Its orgin, its' derivitive,it's meaning. A short disertation-......

The word "SEXY".
Where did this come from?

With me it all started about 18 yrs. ago.
It is not an 'original' word. It was swiped from the movie "Purple Rain". The movie starred Prince, Apolonia and Morris Day.
The movie is a decent movie, worth watching, has a decent sound track and based loosely on Prince's life until that time period..1984-85.

The Morris Day character used this term "sexy" frequrently when refering to his his attractive female friends and various women folk.. Sort of like Arun and his harem- jk. Anyway Morris Day played a flamboyuant, over the top, cocky,pimp/rockstar that thought he was "Gods Gift To Women." He was a parody of himself and also Prince's nemisis in the movie. They competed for women being the best band ect..
When Morris would talk to his bodyguard Jerome about his lady friends he would refer to the as his "sexies".
When one would scream at him in the movie he would say-"Now that is one angry sexy".
When he overbooked his dates for a night he would say-" I have too many sexies this evening".
Anyway so you get the picture.
Morris almost stole the show.
But in the end he turned out to be a fraud.

My friends back then got a kick out of Morris' antics . We incorporated Morris' lingo into our lingo. His words into our vocabulary. ALL IN FUN OF COURSE. And to be implemented only AT THE APPROPIATE TIMES.
Never at church.
Never in a court of law.
Never in a serious situation.
We would use it at-
a Madi Gra Festival
in a dance club
I think you people get the idea.

Alot of people in U2chat know where the 'sexy' jargon originated from.
People like Crazy For Bono and U2ME3,have giggled w/me privately..

Anyway if there is any of you female folk here that I have inadvertenly offended w/the unwise or untimely usage of this term I do apologize.

Hope this clarifies alot of issues or concerns..

ATTN MODS-

PLEASE LEAVE HERE IF PERMISSABLE.........

Thanks-
Diamond

In other words, the "old folks" (myself included).

"America, have you heard?
There's a sexy new dance called the bird."

Well I'm an old fart too as you know (40) and I remember hearing people say it when I was a little kid in the 60's. I went and asked my Mom what it meant and she told me not to go around saying it. I asked her if it was something bad, and she said no but it was connected to something nice little girls just didn't go around talking about, so don't! Just now, before I wrote this, I asked her if the term was around when she was a teenager in the WW2 days and she said of course!

My first definition of SEXY came when I was full grown, in the 80's and I saw Bono on stage! Nothing was any sexier to me. I realized what it meant- that sexy was more than just how you look but it was that combined with moves, mannerisms, voice and charisma. Bono is good looking, but I also believe you can be very good looking and not be sexy- Paul McCartney was a good example of this IMO- or you can be less than perfect and still be sexy!

It bothers me that more people don't appreciate Live Aid/UF Bono, because he was so sexy to me. Okay, knock off the ignorant 'mullet' jokes (personally I loved his hair) and look at him- that outfit, the way he strutted in those boots, the way he fit those pants, all his moves and ways, and that voice- that is my epitome of sexy and always will be.

Oh no maybe this thread needs to be moved again, to PLEBA!

Diamond, you really need to see a little movie called Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. It features a comeback appearance by Morris Day and Jerome. Get the DVD version because it has extra features like dancing lessons with Morris himself:

Making a huge comeback here is Morris Day and the Time, to whom two special features are dedicated. Morris Day and The Time: Learning the Moves shows Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes learning to bust a move with Jerome Benton and Morris Day for the dance sequence they perform in the film. I have to say I'm jealous. I saw Purple Rain too, but Smith and Mewes are the ones up on stage with the Morris and his valet. That's sweet. The Guide to Morris Day and The Time is a series of text pages outlining the musical career of the pioneering band

Jay: Don't you EVER say an unkind word about the Time! Me and Silent Bob modeled our whole fuckin lifes after Morris Day and Jerome! WHAT!

GypsyHeart-
Yes I agree w/you astecically speaking Bono looked most apealing in the UF era. Even better than JT, most girls like JT look the best I think. I didnt cuz he got a little too hippy-just a little. No its not a latent gay thing of mine just an observation.

Calluna-
Thanks for that info.
Silent Bob rocks.
I remember him from the movie "Clerks".
I will definetly rent the DVD.

U2Girl-
Youre great.

Thanks-
Diamond
