Arcade games on the sides of buildings

Arcade is an interactive light installation. Using your mobile phone, you can become a part of the event at any time.

Tetris

Tetris ist one of the most popular computer games of the last 20 years. Since its invention in 1985 it has found its way on almost any computer system and game console in one form or the other. With Arcade you can play Tetris with your mobile phone - on a playground 3370 m2 in size.

Whoever stands in front of Bibliothèque nationale de France can connect himself with the building by dialing +33 (1) 44 24 73 50. The current show will be interrupted and the text "TETRIS" announces that the game can begin.

I think this is the coolest thing ever! They even have PACMAN! I wonder how much their power bill is. :hmm:

The simple, mechanical relays of the installation in the "Haus des Lehrers" was replaced by a combination of self-developed control computers (Matrix Control Unit) and electronic semiconductor relays. Because the 20 floors are completely separated due to fire protection rules, we have installed 20 Matrix Control Computers in the building, interconnected via the internal computer network. Another computer in the 18th floor (Chaos Control Center) sends the pixel data stream to the matrix control units.

The big window size (1.80m x 3.60m) made it necessary to use a second lamp for each window to ensure the 2:1 format is perfectly visible and to have a good light coverage even for lower brightness values. 20 floors with 26 windows result in 1040 lamps that are accessed in pairs.

Blinkenlights consists of 8 floors with 18 windows each. Behind every window there is a single lamp on a self-made tripod. Each lamp is connected to the power source via a relay. If the relay switches on, the window pane becomes bright.
