The problem I have with people criticizing franchises is they've been around forever. Tarzan, Buck Rodgers, any classic horror movie...

It is true that an entire year shouldn't be judged based on 1 or 2 movies alone, but it's cool if you liked them. I did, too.

I wasn't criticising franchise films per se, just that a year of film shouldn't be judged on the big name films released in it. I really enjoyed Harry Potter this year and will be seeing The Bourne Ultimatum when it comes out here (thought Ocean's 13 was pants though).

And to save me replying to you in 2 different threads, what's in that big ass, 200 film Netflix queue mofo?

Okay, that makes sense. I really loved Spidey 3, Transformers, Die Hard 4, and Knocked Up this summer.

Here's a sampler of the Epic-Ass 200 Movie NetFlix Queue:

Metropolis
Barton Fink
The Graduate
Notorious
Marathon Man
The Cider House Rules
The Fisher King
Brazil
Heat
Charade
Malcolm X
The Science of Sleep
All the President's Men
Cool Hand Luke
Vertigo
They Live
The French Connection
Serpico
Once Upon a Time in America
Waking Life
Seven Samurai
Miller's Crossing
Punch-Drunk Love
Renaissance (this looks amazing, btw)
Fargo
Touch of Evil
Starman
Broadcast News
Easy Rider
Poltergeist
and Shadow of the Vampire (we all need some more Dafoe.)

Ah, I forgot about Knocked Up, I think we get that in a couple of weeks and I'm keen to see it.

That's a pretty varied list too, it's cool to see some Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock lurking in there. Both of Grant's have two of his most gorgeous co-stars too (Ingrid Bergman and Audrey Hepburn) hehe. Overall there's a fair few stone cold classics in there, it'll be interesting to find out your views on them

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to hitting some real classics with the ability to appreciate them.

Expect lots of reviews in the review thread.

So... did last year really stack up, or will this year and '09 top it?
