Well, well. Being from Sacramento and a Kings fan, am I surprise? NOT AT ALL. Trading Webber talks have been on going for a long time now.

You may say Sacramento is "STUPID" for trading Webber but I think theres way more here than what is being said.Geoff Petrie is known for making good trades, so why did he do this trad that obviously does not favor Sacramento? Sure, Webber is making a lot money 3rd highest salary in the NBA. Maybe Sacramento wanted some breathing room? Maybe.

Here's what I think happened.

I think it came down to either keeping WEBBER or PEJA. Sure both said that whatever happened between them during the off season was "OK" now. But was it really? PEJA made it VERY CLEAR to Geoff and the Kings that he wanted to be traded. Some how they convinced him to stay. Maybe Peja and Webber just never made amends. PEJA has an option to stay after the 2005/6 season. Maybe Geoff felt pressured by PEJA to get rid of Webber or he will be going! I doubt the Kings want to get rid of PEJA. They want PEJA. So maybe Geoff felt that in order to keep Peja he had to sacrifice Webber.

Before the incident with Webber and Peja happened. Geoff Petrie made it very clear that he will ONLY trade Webber for an equal Super-star athlete. So what is up with this trade then? No Super star is coming to Sacramento, yet Webber is Gone.

And Calvin LAKERS SUCK!!!

I dunno, maybe the Celtics saw something that convinced them that this time around he'll want to be a great power forward instead of a crappy outside shooter.

Hey Hey Hey! Well look at who decided to come out of the barn to take a break from milking cows. well well well... I guess you DO have a tv in there. All this time I thought you were just having fun with that cow bell I gave you a parting gift after we crushed your heart in the western conference finals. Ah yes, I do miss our fights

Why are kings fans always in denial?

The differnce now is that before last year Toine was definitely going to demand a max contract when his deal was up (end of this season), but now reality has set in that he isn't gonna command max dollars, so the Celts may re-sign him for a reasonable contract or they'll let him go and have the available cap space.

No kidding. I guess the plan for the Knicks is to have a bloated payroll that will be in fierce contention for the 8th playoff spot every year for the rest of the decade.

Do you include improving team chemistry in #1? I'm not a big NBA follower, but my percption was that the King's lack of chemistry was at least part of this deal.

Sort of similar to Randy Moss getting shipped out of Minnesota -- I actually think the Vikes will be better off without him.

you're missing something... the randy moss trade improved team chemistry... yes. but this trade accomplished two of the three goals for a trade... the vikings got younger and got more cap room. and if they use that cap room for plaxico burress, and then add to their defense with the extra draft picks... then yea... they got better, too.

the kings may have improved chemistry... arguably. but they didn't get younger, they didn't improve their team and they didn't help their cap number.
