I'm doing alright.

I get out of school in late June, mostly because we get so many unnecessary off days. Like tomorrow. We're getting a day off for Rash Hashanh (sp?). I think it should just be all those observing the day from the Jewish community should get a day off, and the day in school isn't new material or tests.

The problem is that our school district dealt with an almost three week teacher strike four years ago. Part of the deal ended up being added days for both teachers and students. Which means we have more days, and they have more inservices (off days for students during the year), which push us even farther back.

So, we end up in school till June 20th.

for snow & her family. Not sure what's up, but as Reg said, I'll respect her privacy

Hello bar Woke up at about 11:00am to read the news that the 5 dates of the White Stripes tour (thru the 19th at least) are cancelled. And of course we were going on the 19th. :bummed:

And Philly.... in the old days, Rosh Hashanah was not a school holiday, but all the Jewish kids would take off, which gave the other kids an excuse to not show up as well. So I guess they figured they'd throw the Jewish community a holiday. Or something like that

Individually, I find it fine. But all of these days off add up after a while. We get off next month for a random day too. An inservice I believe.

Maddy has a half day today, followed by a day off tomorrow. And she was all happy too celebrate her braces removal on 9/19 followed by a White Stripes show. I just broke the news to her when she called from class (asking about a volunteer thing)

The only thing that sucks about the days off is that you have to make up for them at the end of the year.

Exactly. I've never heard of another school getting out that late on a regular basis. Last year the 21st, this year the 20th.

Like the geography teacher in sixth grade who's idea of teaching Russia was by talking about the time she went to the mall in Moscow?

I wish I was kidding.

Good teachers are so hard to find.

This is also the one who gives us a shitload of reading to do and then won't answer even a general question on what will be covered on the mid-term. I'm not looking to be spoon fed, but a little bit of an idea as to what I should be looking for would be helpful.

Speaking of 'good' teachers....How come none of the hot teachers were sleeping with their students when I was in high school...
