And yes, we are starting to get a hate on for Calgary/Alberta in general now, too.

It's a cultural thing, not a personal thing.
I understand group tendencies to be resentful of another area - specifically, the eastern provinces vs Ontario and the west. Economically and politically, there's very good reason for it.

On a personal or tourist level, it's a little hard for me to understand how one could judge a city without ever having been there, that's all.

It's just natural to hate Calgary!

I agree. Like right now everywhere is having droves of people move to ALTA, so there is some attitiude about that, but I personally have never been there and I would love to visit Calgary etc. to see if I like it for myself.

When we first moved to London, everyone here talked shit about Windsor, what a dirty city is is, people etc. I was nearly afraid to go there. I get there and it's fantastic - London could take a page from it's book - Riverside, the outdoor cafes etc. Much better trails along the lake than anything we have here.

I understand it's a very industrial city - which to all the WASPS here make it automically an economic hole, but beyond that, as VP said, tourist wise it's great. Same thing just on a smaller scale

I don't have time to look at the pics now, but I will when I get back from class in a couple of hours.

I spent Canada Day weekend in Charlottetown. For the record, PEI cops are jerks - they made us dump 13 beers into the harbour, even though they were closed and in a plastic bag. They're lucky the countryside is so nice - the beaches on PEI are unbelievable too (and the water's like bath water on the south shore)!

Off to Civil War History - see you all at 3:30.

I'm actually in London all next weekend, for my son's Provincial basketball finals (major atom rep). We'll be there for 3 days, staying at some hotel there with the team.

Honestly though without the schools and the spring tournaments in almost every sport imaginable happening there, London would tank, don't you think?

Agreed about Windsor. I stayed there for a weekend several years back, when the first casino was in operation and they were just in the process of building the new one. I went there expecting filth and grime, but to the contrary, it was awesome! We stayed in the downtown area, and walked the streets at night. Almost every restaurant and bar had outdoor patios, the streets were filled with people. The atmosphere was very fun and festive.

And for the record, I have more of a desire to visit eastern Canada than the west. Sorry, Thora.

You should look up my brother in Charlottetown Dave! He's your age and a cool cat...he tries to stay away from the keystone cops out there lol

My entire lineage on my dad's side is actually from NS...L'Ardoise in Cape Breton to be exact all the way back to the late 1600s, my original ancestor was Lieutenant in the French Navy who came from France to be stationed at Louisbourg. I'm named after Gabriel Pate (with some accents on the a and e thta I cant figure out how to do on this thing), a great great great great (not sure how many greats) grandfather...

ETA the Halifax connection: my great grandfather Isadore left L'Ardoise in 1904 and headed to Halifax to find work. It was there that my grandfather was born (and buried) and met my grandmother...her father was a rum-runner from Newfoundland..

sorry if that's boring, I'm pretty deeply rooted to Halifax and the east coast

Sigh. Yeah. I miss it everyday.

The pic in the restaurant is a real tradition. It's a New Glasgow lobster supper place. Very down-home type setting. All you can eat mussels for appetizers...they come in buckets..and just keep coming till you say stop ...

The pic where it looks like the camera is overlooking the beach..that was taken from right in front of our tent. You can actually tent on the small cliff overlooking the ocean. Believe me, it's completely to die for

and further down, likely the only pic you'll ever see of me in a bathing suit...taken jumping off the bridge at Basin Head beach in Souris

No worries. I've barely been anywhere in Canada, so I do want to see more, especially the east coast.

I've only been to a few cities outside the Vancouver area in BC, and I went to Edmonton twice. I need to see more of Canada, but I do love traveling internationally.

I've never been to any other province. I suck.
