Singer's second chance at speech

Winning song Falling Slowly comes from low-budget film Once
A memorable Oscars 2008 moment came when winner Marketa Irglova returned to the stage after she had earlier been drowned out by music as she was about to make her speech.

Irglova and her boyfriend, Irishman Glen Hansard, won the best song Oscar for Falling Slowly, from their low-budget film Once.

After Hansard gave his speech, music began to play and the pair were forced to leave the stage before Irglova could say anything.

After a commercial break, host Jon Stewart then delighted the audience by announcing that Irglova was to be allowed to return to the stage.

Stewart had earlier joked that Hansard was "arrogant", in reference to The Commitments actor's humble speech.

Here are Hansard and Irglova's speeches in full:

GLEN HANSARD
This is amazing. What are we doing here? This is mad.

Hansard's Oscars 'dream'
We made this film two years ago; we shot on two Handycams.

It took us three weeks to make; we made it for a hundred grand.

We never thought we would come into a room like this and be in front of you people.

It's been an amazing thing.

Thanks for taking this film seriously, all of you - it means a lot to us.

Thanks to the Academy, thanks to all the people who've helped us - they know who they are, we don't need to say them.

This is amazing. Make art.

MARKETA IRGLOVA
Hi everyone.

I just want to thank you so much.

This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musicians and artists that spend most of their time struggling.

This - the fact that we're standing here tonight, the fact that we're able to hold this - it's just to prove, no matter how far out your dreams are, it's possible.

And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream and don't give up.

And this song was written from a perspective of hope and hope, at the end of the day, connects us all, no matter how different we are.

I know it was so great...

especially when jon brought Mar back out to say her thank you speech.. Class act right there..

funny thing tho.. hubby and son were asleep and I stayed up to watch the whole thing.. When they won I guess I yelped/squeeled real loud cuz he came running down the stairs saying 'wtf' ... :giggle:

The movie "Once" has been in my netflix queue forever and I will finally be seeing it this week. Last night reminded me why I wanted to see it. I am happy that they won. I will be buying tickets later today to see The Swell Season perform in Atlanta this Spring. I have been listening to their performance this morning on NPR.

Here is the link for those who would like to hear the NPR performance:

"Getting a text from Bono is the biggest thing that can happen to an Irishman."

Okay, I think I  him even more now.

I'm going to try and get tickets to the Seattle show at the Moore. I signed up just now for their presale alerts and whatnot, but I see the presale is already this Wednesday. I hope I'm not too late to get my foot in the door for that.

supposedly the presale for the baltimore show is tomorrow at 10am according the frames website but I don't see any info on ticketmaster's page about it.. I can't figure out if this show is reserved or GA cuz the ticketmaster site just lists one price: $37.00 and no other info... grrr...

Yeah, I'm in Seattle. I got the code for the presale (it was "once," gosh that's tough to figure out har har) last night and got a seat to the right of the stage, row D, seat 5. As long as seat 5 isn't WAY off to the side, I'll be happy.
