The park probably wouldn't be open for business in October anyway unless they add some starting pitching.

Gillick's argument is that "the best starter available is Brett Myers, and we have him now after this trade."

Trade market for pitching could be interesting...we assume Santana is available (for a steep price I'm sure), and I'm hearing whispers that both Dan Haren and Scott Kazmir could be available. I'd assume it will take a bit more than Vic Zambrano to get Kazmir (given the Rays notorious high demands), and the fact that savvy Billy Beane is thinking of dealing Haren at all makes me wonder if he's less than 100% healthy. Still, some quality arms out there.

Haren on the block? Really? As you say, if that is the case something has to be wrong with him. He'd never deal him before he was a year from free agency otherwise.

Hey, just because he traded Jeremy Bonderman for Ted Lily...

Sabathia over Beckett for the AL Cy Young.

Too bad the postseason wasn't part of it.

I'm a little surprised that the margin was that big. I guess Beckett will just have to look forward to picking up his world series ring next April.

sabathia had one less win, a slightly lower ERA, slightly more strikeouts and the same WHIP as beckett.

pretty much a dead heat... the deciding factor probably came down to the fact that the red sox were considered to be a vastly superior team to the indians at the time of voting, thus making sabathia's stats look more impressive.

i think

Actually, I think the main thing that tipped the scales in favor of Sabathia was the 40 extra innings pitched.

I thought it was the 40 extra pounds. Seriously, he's got a big ass.
