this is the key point... Mattingly is the favorite yankee of all time for the majority of yankee fans in the 20 to 40 age bracket. he's a god. it's unbelievable how yankee fans adore him. i mean i love keith hernandez and all, and i always have a good time arguing with yankee fans over who was better, hernandez or mattingly, but there isn't a met in the history of the franchise whom met fans simply adore the way yankee fans adore don mattingly.

he... is... gaaaawwwwd.

That made me laugh out loud. Yeah, he's probably already having flashbacks to the past few seasons. It'll be odd to see Torre and possibly Mattingly in Dodger uniforms. Odd, too, that I move from LA after 10 years, and all of a sudden Torre might go there. Coincidence????

I'll remember you discounting Torii Hunter when he signs with the Mets....or when he destroys the Mets at some point.

unless torri wants to play right field, i don't see that happening anytime soon.

he's a great fielder and a solid hitter... but he does not exactly strike fear in the hearts of pitchers everywhere.

But he is a lot more than an "average" player in the Free Agency world. We aren't talking Meche here.

meh... i'm not going nuts over a 33 year old center fielder with a career .270 batting average. he's a year or two away from a slip. whoever signs him should be very careful.

I'm watching the Rolling Rally on mlb.com and I'm SO glad their announcers have absolutely no clue about the Red Sox. Youkilis' boat went by and one insisted the "YOOOUUUK" cheer was the crowd yelling BOOOO, no matter how many times they told her otherwise. We also have a new player named Jonathan Ellsbury, and Mike Lowell made a fantastic slide to ensure a home run.

Ya all that headhunting last year and you know the guy he really wanted to buzz was Torre. That to me is Torre's big problem...he rides his setup guys into the ground, always has. I think if he ever had a bullpen where he trusted more than 2 of the pitchers in it it would be different (think 90s Yanks when they had Nelson, Stanton, and Mendoza - and it helped his starters went 6 or 7 most nights then).

So this would make it 2 times the Yankees got Grady Little fired...

i would have to imagine the dodgers have made a pledge to torre that they will do everything in their power to improve that team before next season, 'cause they're certainly not a playoff team as is.

I hope they sign ARod.

That team is in dire need of a bat. They also better bring in some relievers.

I was thinking they ought to go young and play LaRoche, Kemp, and Ethier every day, but if they bring ARod in they can deal LaRoche for more pitching help.

Judging by Papelbon's postgame interview Sunday night, I'm betting that's not Virginia tobaccy he's got in that cigar... wonder if "rolling rally" has a double meaning perhaps?
