Hey Hewson,

Matt Holliday just called - he wonders if he can come and play in the World Series. Please call him back.

Note to Brad Hawpe:

It's really fuckin' hard to catch a ball with the back of your glove.

Warren Zevon's "Excitable Boy" is the most bizarre song I have ever heard used as part of a sports broadcast.

I'm looking forward to seeing Lester tonight. He looked very good in Cleveland.

Dustin Pedroia is about to have one more ring than Alex Rodriguez (and maybe a WS MVP too), and if Alex tried to elbow him in the nads again I bet DP tells him all about it too.

I do think Norbit tagged Manny on the hip, but it's interesting that he had the ball in his throwing hand, and went to tag Manny as if even he thought he'd missed the tag. And someone needs to tell Manny that you only flip the helmet off when you hit a walkoff homer.

At least he gets to see the trophy presented on his home field.

A question for those of you who like to wager a bit on sports...

Hypothetically lets say you (OK me) have a pending wager of Red Sox to sweep the WS at +545 (50 to win 272.50 in fact), now that it stands 3-0, would you throw a hedge play in on the Rockies +125 in game 4?

I wouldn't. But I was never a hedger in my betting days, so grain of salt applies here.

I don't hedge solely for the purpose of hedging. But if you believe AccuScore, tonight's matchup is 50-50, meaning that the Game 4 bet itself is profitable.

The other thing going for the Rockies tonight is that if Jon Lester doesn't get through 6 innings, Kyle Snyder and Eric Gagne are likely to see multiple innings, as Francona will want to save Okajima and Papelbon to clinch Game 5 with Beckett starting.

1. Bloated payroll - This is a BIG one. Throwing money around to BUY championships. They sign gap -filling, over-priced players like they are the Yankees. ie. Drew and Dice-K for examples. Great if it's your team - sucky for baseball teams not in NY, Boston, LA, or Chicago. Salary cap anyone??
Yes, their payroll is high, but as you point out, it's goes beyond the Red Sox to a few other teams, so you can't single Boston out for that.

2. Superior, Aloof fans - What is it with this Red Sox Nation crap?? Where did all these bandwagoneers come from?? All of a sudden, everyone is a Sox fan? 10 years ago there wasn't this type of fanaticism...now in most visiting stadiums there are more Sox 'fans' than home team fans. Unless y'all been in hiding for the last 10+ years.. I call bullshit.
While I agree that the Sox have their share of bandwagon fans, quite a few us, like myself, have been fans of the team our whole lives and went through years of nothing. Give us a break if we finally get to enjoy the success now.

3. Media coverage - The Yankees used to get all the press...now the Red Sox also dominate the coverage East coast..west coast..north...south..it doesn't matter. Gets tiresome watching Papelbon doing his river dance as a piece story or Manny declaring that if he doesn't care if they win there is always next year.
It's increased over the last few years, but the Red Sox have always received an enormous amount of media coverage. There are a few other teams that get a lot of media coverage as well...

Again, they always get a lot of press, so I don't see how they've all of the sudden become the Yankees in your eyes when it's been going on for a while.

I understand people get sick of hearing about them again and again, and yeah, you can blame the media for that and it can draw similarities to the Yankees in that respect, but other than that, they are nothing like them.

Serious line move, Rox are now +152.

Well good thing I didn't do it this morning. Still not sure if I'll do it, but the line is better now if I choose to do so.

When it comes to the media attention angle the worst case is the Cubs. Yeah the Sox and Yankees get a ton of media coverage, but that's because they're good. When they Sox were bad the media didn't care, you didn't see them 10 times a year on ESPN. But we get a ton of Cubs talk, whether they're relevant or not.
