I wish I was home watching Dice-K rather than reading updates on the game here at work.

Dice-10K

Not a bad first outing, even if it is the Royals.

That is NOT true.

They called the game a tie after the 7th inning (at least everyone had fun - and that is what is most important) and they all went to McDonalds.

Royals or not, I watched Dice K from work and he looked pretty sharp. Good movement on his fastball, and good command. Nice breaking ball, and he threw strikes. I already fucking hate him.

Both local papers have "Dice-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K-K" on the front page this morning.
The hype is a bit much.
Of course I'm quite pleased he is on the Red Sox, and doubly pleased he pitches for my IFL fantasy team.

The bottom line is that his ability to change between 7 pitches makes him very difficult to hit, and he's going to be one of the best this season barring injury.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia ...

I'm putting Ryan Madson On Notice.

Perhaps the Boss shouldn't have invested $16 mil a year in Andy Pettitte and made a more aggressive run at Matsuzaka.

Today to fill up space in the scoreboard page in the Herald the has a column with the 75 top 2007 salaries...
1. Arod $27,708,525
2. Steroid Giambi $23,428,571
3. Boot 2 Jeets $21,600,000
4. Money Ramirez $17,016,381
5. Fraud Helton $16,600,000
6t. Bartolo Colonoscopy: $16,000,000
6t. Andy Pettitte: $16,000,000

Now I think Pettitte was a very good pitcher in his hey day, but the 6th highest salary this year in MLB??

If only Seinfeld were still on so Frank Costanza could confront Steinbrenner about this.

(Of course Pettitte is probably not the worst of the group, Richie Sexson the #12 overall salary at $15,500,000??? sweet jeebus)

Not the start I hoped for in Philly. Hopefully a trip to Florida will change things this weekend.

time to bury the bravos

i love the hype machine... really. does everyone forget that the phillies were awful for 3/4s of the season last year, then got hot down the stretch to make it interesting? how does that translate into the "team to beat?"

At least the Pettitte deal is for one year. The real killer is when teams give tons of $$$ to unworthy players and it's over multiple years. Like Carlos Lee. Or Suppan. Or Marquis. Or Giambi, who is useless in the field and cannot run. The Yankees have 3 1B on their roster because of him. Eh.

Bartolo Colonoscopy was actually coined by U2Kitten and her brother before Bartolo Colon was even born, because they are direct descendants of both Chris Berman and Nostradamus, that pair.
