THIS POLL IS ONLY 24 HOURS

Unless something changes in the next couple minutes, "Sister Morphine" was the last song to be eliminated from Sticky Fingers, meaning that the five songs moving on to the Tier 1 finals are:

Sway, Wild Horses, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Dead Flowers and Moonlight Mile.

We arrive at the last of the "Big Four", Exile on Main St. In survivors past, I would've given this album 8-10 songs instead of the 5 it will be getting, but the general public seems to prefer to give it the 5. In order for this to not, then, take a month to get through, I have opted to make two changes to the first few rounds.

Please: VOTE FOR YOUR TWO LEAST FAVORITE SONGS

THIS POLL IS ONLY 24 HOURS

Once we get to where we have about 10 songs left, I'll change it back to Least favorite, but I may go ahead and stick to 24 hour polls. After this album, we will return to the regular "vote for you X favorite songs" 48 hour polls.

My problem with this album has always been that I can't ever remember which song is which, outside of Shine a Light and Tumbling Dice...oh and Happy. So I'm really hoping that it turns out that Turd on the Run is a real stinker.

I can play probably about half of these songs in my head. I really need to give the entire album a spin to remember the rest.

my two least favorite are easy. it's everything after that that's going to be toughhhhhh. ugh.

You're not so sweet on those two tracks, eh?

heh. you could say so, yes. death to all songs off exile with "sweet" in the title!

Got through Let It Loose on the way to work. I'm pretty confident my Top 5 hasn't changed:

Tumbling Dice
Loving Cup
Sweet Black Angel
Shine A Light
Rocks Off

Up to this point my contenders for elimination are Casino Boogie and in the, uhh, number two spot would be Turd On The Run.

I imagine there will be at least another bit of disposable filler before I'm done.

When I was a kid, hearing this for the first time, my least favorite was always "I Just Want To See His Face".

Haven't listened to the album in full for so long. Might have to do that today.

My favorites are Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, Tumbling Dice, Sweet Virginia, Loving Cup, Torn and Frayed, and Happy.

A 'cockified version of I Just Want To See His Face just came into my mind, and I was reminded of the one for The Beatoffs' I've Just Seen A Face.

Man, I miss that Remasters thread. Good times.

This is a great album. Such is the magic of Exile on Main Street, I'm finding it difficult to pick out favorites and least favorites. I know I'd like to see the following songs go through, but I don't care overly much which five are specifically chosen:

Rocks Off
Tumbling Dice
Torn and Frayed
Loving Cup
Happy
Shine a Light
Soul Survivor

The tough part is picking which good-but-not-classic songs to eliminate. There are plenty of strong but not essential tracks like Let It Loose and All Down the Line that I could imagine people fighting for. First and foremost, I'm going with Ventilator Blues in the interest of spreading votes out as far as possible. It's a decent enough track but whether it goes now or in round four, it doesn't really matter. Then Casino Boogie because it's just alright.

Ventilator Blues is my favourite song on the album.

Went through the first half just now. The only track that doesn't really leave an impression is Casino Boogie. And I really like Sweet Virginia - am I alone in that?

Me neither.

So I finished on the way home. Soul Survivor is still a lame closer, and I'm shocked you'd rank it among the Top 7. All Down The Line has to be the most generic song on the album. Aside from some wild harp playing by Jagger, it didn't have much to offer. Ventilator Blues at least sounds different than everything else.

I think I'm going with Casino Boogie and All Down The Line. Though I might fight to save Sweet Black Angel.

Ventilator Blues is my favourite song on the album.

Deap Vally recorded a cover of this for a compilation that I don't think ever came out. I should upload it to YouTube or something, it's really good.

I'll never agree with those that want Shine a Light as a closer. It comes out of nowhere and doesn't match anything around it. The song is a crowd pleasing deus ex machina, like they wrote the song to be a closer in the mold of Salt of the Earth, only they realized it didn't work so they kept going. Soul Survivor is the perfect closer for this grimy, ugly album, though it's not as good of a song as You Can't Always Get What You Want or Moonlight Mile.

That said, I love both songs and I think they nailed the sequencing. There's a bit of a reprieve without total consolation.

Through the second half. Ventilator Blues and Let It Loose are a lot better than I remember - great tracks, the both of them. Turd on the Run lives up to its name in terms of the second half.

The best song on this album is Shine a Light. Whoever's playing piano on that track deserves a medal.

Another possibly unpopular opinion: I think Rocks Off is a better song and album opener than Brown Sugar. No slight on Brown Sugar, but Rocks Off encompasses the sound and themes of the album perfectly while kicking tons of ass. The horn section was a great touch.

Awww yeeeeaaahh

Turd on the Run and Casino Boogie are the only tracks I can't recall off the top of my head, so happily voted for the former and nice to see it's tied it up.

Tough to choose a top five but my shortlist would be Tumbling Dice/Soul Survivor/Shine a Light/Torn and Frayed/Happy/Rocks Off/Let it Loose. And fuck it, Sweet Virginia as well. I love that song.

It might be my favorite Stones song period. It's such a rush. I've said this before on here, but the opening one-two of "Rocks Off" and "Rip This Joint" is what really truly turned me into a Stones fan. Personally, I can't think of a more perfect duo to open up and define an album. It sets the tone for everything. Off the cuff, fast, loud, dirty. This is what Exile On Main St is. This is what the Rolling Stones are.

The sunshine bores the daylights outta me.

No, I agree completely.

Two votes for Ventilator Blues? I love that sleazy guitar riff and the moment when the horns come in in the chorus is just sublime. Very representative of this record in terms how bluesy and laid-back it is, but still having ambitious songwriting behind it.
