In my top 5 films for 2006 (which is quite the honor given how strong a year it was for movies), The Prestige is probably Christopher Nolan's greatest cinematic achievement to date. I almost wish he wasn't making The Dark Knight now, simply so he's pursue other unique projects like this. But he continues to prove he is one of the top rising directors in the business.

But I just picked up the DVD today, and will either watch it tonight or tomorrow. I looooove this film.

And you can't beat a Bowie role.

I'm waiting to get it used with Children of Men and For Your Consideration, but yeah, it's my 4th fave of the year:

1. Little Miss Sunshine
2. V for Vendetta
3. Children of Men
4. The Prestige

Hmm, I wonder what my favs of the year actual were. Probably something like this:

1. V for Vendetta
2. Children of Men
3. Little Miss Sunshine
4. The Prestige
5. Casino Royale

Hah. Yeah, so not very different from yours.

I'm going to try to see the Prestige soon here. I don't know why I haven't got around to it yet.

Great movie, though I'm not sure if it's one I need to own. I've gotten very bad at re-watching dvds I have.

Seriously? Huh. I found the entire thing only semi interesting, and then the whole Tesla thing crashed it through the floor for me. Hated it.

But then again I fell asleep through V for Vendetta too.

My top five:

It really wasn't a very good year for movies, 2006.

My relative top five:

K, 2006 pretty much just sucked for movies.

Inside man - though the point of the Jodi Foster role is beyond me
16 Blocks - Okay, but predictable and unoriginal. Fun in the theater anyway.
The Departed was okay
RV was funny in parts. A few parts.
I don't think I can come up with a fifth.

I missed Children of Men, The Good Sheppard and Blood Diamond. Maybe they would've made '06 better.

Ah, Casino Royale. That was pretty good. It's my fifth.

Little Miss Sunshine? There are people who thought it was good? I still want my $5 back.

Scarlett Johansson's outfits / breasts!

How about David Bowie not wearing contacts and having 2 different colored eyes in this movie?

I loved it.

you thought it was completely unfunny or had more than just a few funny parts?

You listed RV as one of your potential 5 best movies of the year.

Come on. Even if it was the only movie you saw in 2006 it doesn't belong. You should just assume there were 5 better movies.

Didn't that movie get released in a Happy Meal?

I fully understand why some people would not like The Pestige. There's certainly a level of love-hate relationship associated with these types of films. It's actually a film more about the art of film-making that anything else, in a strictly metaphorical sense, which certainly adds another more fascinating layer of depth to it.

Crazy magicians
David Bowie
Nikola Tesla
Cats and birds n shit

A+ film would watch again

I thought it was okay in that 2006 was a terrible year for movies. At the very least it wasn't boring as most of that pretentious crap was.

awesome

I thought this year was really solid for movies, and some of my favorites of the decade came out this year.

Now, now. A movie isn't 'pretentious crap' just because you didn't understand it.

Now, now assuming someone didn't understand it as the reason for not liking it is the definition of pretentious. lol

Only if it weren't true.

PM me your address, I'll send you some copies of my sister's Hillary Duff movies. They are not 'pretentious crap' - no doubt you'll love'em.

Road House is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

And on a much higher intellectual plane than RV

This whole thing is stupid and had the Dalton actually comprehended my post (something about things flying over people's heads fits in here somewhere) he would have noticed that my listing RV was more than anything else an indictment of 2006 rather than praise for that movie which I believe I double stated in the same line that I only liked in certain parts.

No mate, I understood completely. It is just much more entertaining for me to stand in judgement over your ignorance.

So in the end, I've been amused.
