Zoot, if all you've heard is Synchronicity and the Best Of album, check out Zenyatta Mondatta first. In my opinion, it's their best.

I thought I would combine all the youtube clips into one post to make them easier to find now that this thread is getting much larger and these things are bit spread out:

The following songs are from a show on the Police's first tour some of which were posted already but not in any sort of order. The show is for a German TV Program "Musikladen" and takes place in a TV studio. This show took place on January 18, 1979 in Bremen Germany, about 2 months after the release of the first album, Outlandos D' Armour. Its a great performance of songs from the first album as well as non-album tracks!

So Lonely
Born In The 50's

Peanuts

Roxanne

You can watch the entire show above without switching between the songs here, although about half of So Lonely is missing.

Fall Out

Truth Hits Everybody

Peanuts

Next To You

Here is a clip of the Police playing Roxanne at the Pink Pop Festival in Geleen Netherlands on June 4, 1979.

Roxanne

So Lonely

Deathwish

Bed's To Big Without You

Here are a two songs from a Police show in Frejus France at the Les Arena on August 28, 1980 just a month before the release of Zenyatta Mondatta. There are more songs from this show in the The Police Tour film, "Police Around The World". In terms of sound and performance, this is one of my favorite Police shows.

Driven To Tears

Part of a Police Concert from a show in Essen Germany on October 18, 1980 at the Grugahalle has just been put up on youtube. It was filmed for the German TV concert show "Rockpalast". This was near the start of the tour for the Zenyatta Mondatta album. Here are the songs and their links that have been put up from this show so far:

Don't Stand So...

Man In A Suitcase

Shadows In The Rain

Message In A Bottle

Can't Stand Losing You

The Police only played one show in Mexico while they were a band. Amazingly, there a few clips of this show up on youtube. The Police played there on November 15, 1980 near the start of the Zenyatta Mondatta Tour. They played the "Grand Ballroom" on the top floor of the "Hotel De Mexico" in Mexico City. Here is a qoute from Andy Summers about this show:

Andy: "We played in a strange place. It was in a sort of a new hotel and we played on the 20th floor. It was very expensive to get in. We played on a very sort of dangerous stage. It was falling apart as we played. Everyone went so crazy. We thought the whole stage would fall apart. It was good fun" ("Mexico FM"; 12-1990).

The Beds To Big Without You

Here is a 1 minute clip that looks to be some sort of advertisement for a video of the show, with a pic of the band standing outside one of the aztec temples tacked on to the end.

The entire video of the Police concert film, "Police Around The World" can be found here:

Every Little Thing....

The Beds To Big Without You

Don't Stand So Close...

This show is the Gateshead stadium show near Newcastle England on July 31, 1982 on the Ghost In The Machine Tour. U2 opened for the Police at this show. Bono came out and sang backing vocals on Invisible Sun.

These particular clips posted on Youtube come from a mix of the show done in Japan in which a keyboard parts normaly in the background somehow got very high in the mix and unfortunately for some songs ocassionally is louder than the band. Still, this is a really good show and 8 songs from it have been posted on youtube. The Japanese and Korean DVD is good, but if you can get the original that was broadcast in the United Kingdom, thats better because the keyboard mix problem is not there.

Fantastic versions of "Bring On The Night" and "Driven To Tears"!

Message In A Bottle

The Beds To Big Without You

Driven To Tears

Don't Stand So Close To Me

The following songs are from a Police show in Montreal on the Synchronicity tour. The show as on August 2, 1983 at a club called the Spectrum. It was the first Police club show in Canada since 1979 and took place the day before the Police played Montreal's OLYMPIC STADIUM or the "BIG O" as locals call it. Tickets to the club show were free and could only be obtained by identifying obscure snippets of songs on the radio. The band played a shorter show than normal, and it was filmed for international pay TV, as well as Showtime in the USA. Crowd footage from this club show is actually used in the Syncrhonicity Concert VHS/DVD which took place at Atlanta's Omni Arena.

The songs sound a little different from the Synchronicity Concert DVD which was filmed at the Omni Arena on November 2-3, 1983, about mid way through the tour. This show was on August 2, 1983 and the tour had just started on July 23, 1983 at Comiskey Park in Chicago. The tempo of some songs is a tad slower and the band sound a little "stiff" on some of them, normal with the start of a tour, but Sting's voice sounds a little better than on the show in Atlanta, and Andy Summers Guitar is higher in the mix. There are other small differences which many will notice as well. Its a great show with some fantastic footage of the band:

Synchronicity 1

Walking In Your Footsteps + interview

Wrapped Around Your Finger

Spirits In The Material World

EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE

Can't Stand Losing You

So Lonely

The latter portions of that concert were broadcast on MTV, and I believe this song was part of the broadcast (being in the stadium, I didn't watch the MTV broadcast), so video surely exists, but surprisingly does not appear to be on YouTube as yet.

Bono came out and sang backing vocals with The Police at the Gateshead Stadium show on July 31, 1982. That was actually on youtube for a while but seems to have disappeared. U2 also opened for the Police near Dublin in July 1980 and there is a clip of U2 playing at that show on youtube, although the audio is strangly from a studio album and not live.

Last night I dusted off my VHS recording of the MTV broadcast of that last Conspiracy of Hope concert in '86. Back when MTV wasn't cutting to commercials in the middle of reunion sets (ala Pink Floyd at Live8) or talking over performances.

I've uploaded Invisible Sun with Bono. Enjoy!

That's awesome. I'm certain I watched that broadcast, but I couldn't remember that for the life of me. Thanks for uploading it!

Stewart Copeland attened Sting and Edin Karamazov's concert last night at the Walt Disney Concert hall in Los Angeles. Prior to playing Message In A Bottle, Sting dedicated it to 2 people in the audience who mean the world to him. I thought he was probably referring to Stewart and Andy, who also lives in L.A., but he must have meant Stewart and Sting's wife Trudie. Roughly 1/2 an hour after the concert ended, Stewart exited the building with Sting, though they left in separate vehicles.
