According to Stingus, the Police will open the Grammy's show on Feb 11. Also, there are apparently 80 dates booked and the boys are rehearsing 30 songs.

Simon & Gartfunky did a similar thing a couple years ago before announcing their big reunion.

how are these guys gonna tour when they all don't get along very well.. I mean 80 dates... I know money is a factor but did they all kiss and make up here recently that I missed? :|

I think after more than twenty years, they have put aside their differences and realize that it's time to give their fans the tour they've been wanting since the late 80s.
I think they're all older and wiser, and Sting has done everything he's set out to do with his solo career.
Even if there still is some hatred there, they are not in their 30s anymore, and the RRHOF reunion showed that they can be civil and still put on a good performance.
ALL that being said, this is still just a rumor, and 80 dates seems like an awful lot.

The initial rumour was 30 dates, but the offers just may be too good to let up.

I think people have forgotten how good a group they were and how they were the biggest act in the world in the early 80's.

Also, Sting is apparently having a bout of severe writers block.

Imagine them opening the Grammy's, and you hear the opening chords and hear Sting singing, "Young teacher, the subject of schoolgirl fantasies....."

:combust:

That's my favorite Police song.

(a la Homer Simpson) Mmmmmm....The Police on tour.

I hope there's truth to all these rumblings - and that the tickets are A: obtainable without the letting of all my blood, and B: within my budget without my selling some vital organs.

:giggle:

I can't believe this is actually happening. A few weeks ago I would've laughed at the idea of The Police getting back together, so all of this news is kind of jarring.

I just hope they can pull it off (and not sound like they did at the RnR Hall of Fame ceremony... LOL). They probably can't go back to what they were like at their peak, but if they come close, it'll still be insanely exciting.

Part of the September 3, 1982 Police performance at the US Festival 1982 has just been put up on youtube. More than 140,000 people turned out for a full Police set the night that the Police headlined the festival. It was the largest crowd the Police ever played in front of.

Unfortunately, the video posted on youtube is only half the concert and the quality is not that great. You'll have to turn your volume all the way up to hear it. There are two digital clocks running on the screen partially obstructing your view, plus some its obvious that the video posted is a copy of a copy as the picture quality is faded. Despite all that, its definitely worth watching.

We'll be expecting daily reports from Vancouver on how the rehearsals are going as well as pictures and bootleg audio from you.

Check Google Earth, but I think the place is gated. They also have a website.

Were you eagerly awaiting reports as to whether Sting was wearing a shirt of not?

No, Stewart Copeland in shorts and tube socks.

Really though, it would be nice to have some hard photographic evidence that this is indeed happening as opposed to rumors and posts on message boards and other internet sites.

Thanks to BORAT, his vintage wardrobe is now quite fashioable.

I find the silence deafening. There would have been a denial by now if there was nothing on the backburner.

They are in Studio #5
They are booked as "Sting and friends"
Sting has been confirmed to be in town

You can enter the studio but it does have some security.

The Vancouver Sun is the source for this information and had a long story with new information - I'm not typing the 2 pages, but the above is the best of the new information

More great news!

This from the NME.com..

Report confirms Police reunion

They're to prepare for first tour in more than 20 years
The Police have scheduled rehearsals in Vancouver for a reunion tour, according to a report on the city's classic rock radio station, CFMI.

Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland will convene at Lions Gate Studios in the Canadian city to prepare for their first tour in more than 20 years.

Rumours abound that the trio will perform at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 11, but they have yet to be confirmed.

Billboard has also reported that the Police will announce tour dates next month.

Frontman Sting is currently touring in support of his lute album, 'Songs From the Labyrinth'. He will release a new CD/DVD package 'The Journey And The Labyrinth: The Music Of John Dowland' on February 20 via Deutsche Grammophon.

To coincide with the release of the new DVD Fender
will also be releasing Lutocaster Sting Signature Series Electric Lute. Made in the custom shop the lute will feature Classic Fender Baroque body, rosewood neck & vintage spec pickups.
