Forget the fact it may not even hit the US.
The Sting factor eh? I really never understood why some people are soo bothered by Sting. He is not much different from Bono.

What do you mean by a "disjointed reunion tour"? If they come to your town or near it, do you think you will see them in concert?

But they don't come off as exceptional or anything to me. Sure its good 80s rock but to say that "The Police were the greatest band in the world in the early to mid 80s before they passed on the torch to U2" kinda makes me go ... Really?

maybe cos I was really an early 90s kid.

When the Police finished their Synchronicity Tour in early 1984, they occupied the same spot in the music industry that U2 has held onto since 1987. They were the biggest band in the world in terms of combined album sales and concert ticket sales at that time, and had the strongest global critical backing of any band out there. The band won multiple Grammy's and would have swept the entire Grammy awards show in 1984 if not for Michael Jackson and Thriller. The band were offered massive amounts of money in the mid to late 80s to reunite and tour again. The demand was huge.

In terms of ones own personal taste, what can you really say. Some people don't find U2, the Beatles, Pink Floyd or the Stones to be "exceptional" either. For me, the Police are the 2nd best band of all time just after U2.

If the prices are ridiculous, then no.

By disjointed, I'd hope I'm wrong, because I think instead of just throwing the guys together for a bit they'd actually work together for a long while to get back into the swing of things before going out on the road. They haven't officially played together in how long, 20+ years?

Last full police concert, 20+ song set, was the last show of the Synchronicity tour at the Showgrounds in Melbourne Australia on March 4, 1984.

Since that time the, police have played together on the following dates:

June 13, 1986 Chicago Rosemount Horizon 9 song set
June 15, 1986 East Rutherford NJ GIANTS STADIUM 6 song set

Stings Wedding

August 1992 - two song set.

Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame Awards 2003

March 2003 3 song set

Wow, very cool.

This thread is making me want to dust off my Classics CD and give it a spin.

I think its great news that they are reuniting. My first concert ever was The Police. I didnt read through the whole thread. But I wonder if it will be stadiums or arenas or both, is there any rumor on it?

I will definately be going, but getting tickets could be one of those ridiculous ordeals. But I will definately try to go.

In my young & formative years there was much lust in my heart for Mr. Matthew Gordon Sumner & a little album he and his mates threw together called Sychronicity. First album I ever owned, matter of fact If it hadn't been for the fact they were already falling apart by then AND a little foursome from Dublin, I'd probably own every album ever issued by the Police instead.

Although I'll only believe it when I'm there rocking my ass off, it's nice to imagine that I might actually get to see the Police in person before either they or I leave this mortal coil. I mean, "Walking in Your Footsteps", "Murder by Numbers", "Tea in the Sahara"??? They're still as amazing to me as the first time I heard them.

P.S. Martha - I saw Sting with Annie Lennox in an outdoor arena back in September 04... Not only was he still damn easy on the eyes, he sounded superb. Maybe you caught them on a bad night??

It's not like you have a built-in bias with your username or anything.

I actually admire the guy, and think he's very talented. As for a successful comeback, I think if any band can pull it off, The Police are primed to do just that.
