The March 2004 issue of Guitar World magazine includes a list of the 100 greatest heavy metal guitarists as selected by the magazine's staff. "This is not a list that ranks who can play the fastest or with the most taste, feeling or technique (although many players on our list have all of those arrows in their quiver)," the editors stress in the accompanying introduction. "It is, rather, a tribute to the great men who shit iron and piss stainless steel razor blades, and do it every time they plug into an amplifier."

Iommi over Page? Now I'm a fan of both, but a lot of Sabbath riffs were... shall we say... ripped off from The Ocean and Black Dog.

:sexywink:

At least Yngwie and Danzig were mentioned. Too bad that Ted "chainsaw massacre" Nugent made the list.

26. Head & Munky (KORN)

nice to see de-tuned 7-string *ka-chug* crap pioneers in there.

Jimmy Page, while not metal in my book, if he's on this list goes to the #1 spot.

certainly above Iommi.

certainly the father of all the others, crap or not.

I also am insulted by the metallica and acdc listings...they are leagues lower than page, sorry.

eddie van halen, as far as metal goes, shoulda been higher.

but then, metal is retarded anyway, so why bother with an accurate list.

haha.

I respect metal in the fact that it's a subdiscipline, a specialty, and a technical practice. May not be my first choice, but I think there's potential to enjoy it (just like jazz sessions) as a performance piece, rather than a structured song experience.

Exactly! I thought I was the only one on this board that knew what a great guitarist John Petrucci is and what a great band Dream Theater is!!

what is it about heavy metal that attracts mainly males and not females? anyone know? i mean, i know women who enjoy listening to the music, but not really women who like making it.

foray

Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix are not really heavy metal...more like bluesy distortion - however many heavy metal artists studied these two great guitarists - two of the best ever

U2 were better than Dream Theater (i was at their concert in Stuttgart). Hell they deserve more than those bastards nu metal newbies Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Who cares MTV sucks my D**k!U2 are a very SOLID TEAM. The Edge doesn?t have to play a blasting solo ala Petrucci, but U2 together produce milestones of Rock History (WHere The Streets has no Names,Gloria, October, New Years Day, Pride ,The Unforgettable Fire, A Day Without Me,etc)Dream Theter can actually only DREAM to write such songs aforementioned above ,cause one thing they care is THE COMPLEXITY OF THE SONG not THE WORTH OF ART.. I prefer to listen to U2?s CD?s any days a week.
(Without Disregarding Dream Theater of course)
